Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

Hi d_girl, yes, it's true. I have put my TV away already like 5 years ago. I was taking away too much time and there wasn't anything good on anyway. Now, if I want to watch a specific movie I can rent/buy/borrow it on DVD and watch on computer or even more comfy on laptop in bed ;)

As for Origami, it's hard to say really. I was doing some simpler stuff on and off since I was a child but never really got the hang of it. But then at some point during my university years (with all those flyers lying around in class rooms...) I was just playing around with a simple traditional crane I remembered how to fold by heart, and then I suddenly had it turned into a flower. And this brought me to play around with a lot of different models, trying to understand how they work and how to create something different using those basic ideas. Also getting internet access and seeing what other people did definitely raised my interest. What I like about Origami is the fact that you can basically do it whenever and whereever you want as long as you find a sheet of paper or similar.

As for difficulty like with other arts and crafts it's a matter of practice. There is easy stuff and there is terribly difficult stuff I wouldn't even dare to look at yet

Now... my question goes to rbud57. You always have those nice animated, seasonal avatars. Where are you getting them from? I would love to have the one you had at halloween in a bigger version, it looked so adorable

Hey, thanks for thinking of me, Scary, and welcome to the thread. Now you're fair game for questions! :winky:

Actually you make me have to confess that I spend waaaay too much time googling images for things. :lol9:

And I'm the sort who WILL go on looking, up to like page 40 of the results, which is about where I found that one. I do use "glitter" and/or "gif" in my search terms, and sometimes "anim" - which gets me both animated and Anime, but I pick out the good ones from between the not-so-good ones.

I have a HUGE collection of avatars collected from all over, and have considered setting up my own site where people can come and find them (and greetings, too.)

Oh, and the one you liked:
Attachment 36899
came in that size, sorry, I never found it any larger. Could try to enlarge it if you like.

My question is for K'Lyn, the illustrious founder of this thread. ;)

You're far and away the top poster on this site, how do you do it?

(though I see npfan is narrowing the gap somewhat!)

Does it take a lot of time? Do you have multiple windows or tabs going at all times, do you just think that fast, or is it maybe MAGIC?!?!?! :lol9:

Just wondering! :whistling

 You're funny, darlin'! ... And thank you, by the way, for inviting me in. :)

Okay, so let's see -

I've had people ask me this and it's hilarious that many of them think I spend all day in here, which, if I may add, is soooo impossible for me to do, it's too funny to think about since back then I still had a young child at home who needed me and a house to run and so forth.

In the beginning when I started my "climb" I had set up a string of sites where I could go straight away for help, etc... when needed and the threads that just required simple thought, well, was simple enough. :) I honestly never consciously went after that status; I actually found out when a good friend pmed me and told me I had bypassed avsf. I was shocked because he was top poster for, like, ever!!

At that time, I would spend about half hour to 40 minutes playing while my daughter napped and, if I had some spare time, in the evening after my children went to bed. Once I worked my way through all the threads that interested me, which I have to say was most of them, I had nothing to do but wait for people to come play. A lot of them are stagnant but the active ones, for me, takes me about half hour to rip through. I mainly work on three of the forums in the Chit Chat area and a few others in several different forums. I do try to maintain all of the threads I've started and keep a eye on the active ones to make sure they stay on track. These days, with both kiddies in school, I find I have even less time so I only get to come on after they go to bed and I don't spend all that long. It may seem long but that's only because I'm also watching my shows that I've taped that day but in essence I run through my faves and that's about it these days.

So basically, in a nutshell, that's how I do it. It doesn't take a lot of time, I don't work from multiple windows, sometimes I can think fast but not usually! :lol9: and no, there's no magic involved.. unless of course, you count GOOGLE as being magical!

Gawsh! That was long-winded, wasn't it? .. Sorry!

Okay, so I think I'll ask ...RENToholic

I remember when you changed your user name to your current one so what I would like to know is while I think I can guess why you changed it what was it about RENT that hookd you and was it because of that why you started the Musicals and Plays thread?

Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

The only reason I started the Musical and Plays thread is to learn about Musicals and Plays. I also wanted other people to know as well. And its because I am a broadway freak.

Ben

Where do you get your designs for all this graphic stuff you do. What is your favorite type of "creature" you've created so far.

Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

Some of it I make myself, some of it I get from various 'freebie' sites around the web where folks make stuff and give out.
Most of it is running around in my head trying to break out :rotfl: Usually when I start something i don't really know what it is, or will be until its done

My favorite creature, is one I'm working on at the moment. Haven't got it completed yet, but for now its my best to date :winky:
Don't want to say too much about it as of yet tho.

My question is for...CJM.

how long have you been engraving mirrors and such, and what other types of art do you enjoy creating?

CjM 12-17-2008 03:19 AM

Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

Well first off thanks for asking me in Ben.

I've been etching mirrors and other stuff for over 20 years. Love it. I draw the designs for them so they are one of a kind. I love creating anything and everything. I crochet a lot. Mostly afghans. Drawing, painting (been awhile since I've painted), carving... walking sticks mostly. Really want to get into pottery. And I would love to try my hand at glass blowing. That would be so cool.

For you Nighthawk.
Whats some of the best things about living in Australia? I've wanted to live there since I was a little girl. Hope to visit someday. Watch out, have the beer and steaks ready. :P

Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

OOooo been a while since I've been back in here....

A hard question, and a perceptual one....what one likes another may not and what we think normal others may hate (as we have discussed CJ :)).

First and foremost, the fact we are an Island. This provides us the perfect situation to be able to control and isolate many probelms from entering.
Diseases such as foot & mouth, mad cow etc etc and many human diseases do not exist here due to this and the very strict quarantine laws. Being an Island help ensure that these are not accidently brought here by other animals or insects etc. (Oh and if anyone is comming here - declare anything....worst that will happen is they will just require you to surrender it. Try and sneak it through and they get a little annoyed :))

Physical saftey is another. Again being an island provides us X amount of protection, but also the fact that the majority of the population is buffered by harsh deserts and landscape for an land based attack to negotiate.

(Oh I should point out when I say an island for those not familiar with size, Australia is approximately the same distance across as mainland UC but not as high.)

Crime and many other aspects of human nature is fairly low and you can feel safe in most areas. (Contary to what some emails may say)

There there is the landscape, you have rainforests, deserts, blue green oceans, tropical islands (some idea of them can be seen here...

YouTube - AUSTRALIA MY ISLAND HOME - an excellent country

Lastly the people....Australians pride themselves in giving people a go and doing what they can to help out. They will bend over backwards to help out someone in genuine need. In times of disaster Australians everwhere will always do what they can. I have seen it first hand when involved in fighting bushfires and a few other situations where you have someone who has just lost there house to fire...grabbing a hose to make sure their neighbor did not lose theirs....

All of this and national achievements from a country with a population of only 20 million.

Not sure if this was the answer you were looking for. Hopefullly it answers it though. :)

Ok currently can't thijnk of another question....and work isn't going away like I keep wishing it would....

Cj would you like to proxy for me.

Thanks Night, that was answered very well. The passing of the torch is questionable! But I'll do my best. Thinking................

Okay this goes to Ben. :P Whats is really like in your head? Do you ever get lost in there? Sounds like a fun but scary place to be.

bg38 12-17-2008 04:47 AM

Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

honestly CJ, Its a weird wonderful place :P all of the jokes and cpmics you see me do here? thats all a part of who, or what I really am. If you read my comics.. you've met me. In real life thats what you 'll get if we meet .
and THAT's what is in my head....well, that... and penguins....

hmmm, who's the next victi.... er... interviewee? i'll think of a question and post back :)

ok...K'lyn.. How long have you been a big fan of coronation street? and who's your favorite character there?

K'Lyn 12-18-2008 04:21 AM

Re: The Who-What-Where-When-Why & How Thread

How do yo know I like Coronation Street? :whistling

Okay, okay... I love it! I've been a fan for ...... oh my, must be since '95. I remember watching a bit of it here and there with my sister before that but I really got into it then. When I started working I lost touch with it until '98 when I quit my job to have my first baby. I got right back into it and now I tape it to watch at night after my kiddies go to bed.

As for my favourite character - wow, that's a tough one. So tough that it might be easier to tell who my least favourite is (for right now anyway): Michelle ... oh, and then's there Carla. Those two are grating my nerves at the moment so that was real easy. I hope that works for you. :) And thanks, btw, for calling me in, luv. :hug3

Okay, let me holler after.... rozee
