Now the only problem is to get it around your brain :dizzy: :winky:

What poem is that? It doesn't ring a bell and you make me curious

Re: Nordinho Pub Part 33 1/3

that was a little misquote from Stevie Smith-from a poem called "not waving but drowning" 1957
Spoiler:
Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

Re: Nordinho Pub Part 33 1/3

Thx, that is quite a poem :) I like it  Somehow it reminds me of this:
Spoiler:
TO A DEAD MAN (Carl Sandburg)

OVER the dead line we have called to you
To come across with a word to us,
Some beaten whisper of what happens
Where you are over the dead line
Deaf to our calls and voiceless.

The flickering shadows have not answered
Nor your lips sent a signal
Whether love talks and roses grow
And the sun breaks at morning
Splattering the sea with crimson.

The mind works in strange ways ;)

Re: Nordinho Pub Part 33 1/3

Stevie Smith was obsessed by death- she attempted suiced just a couple of weeks after writing this poem- i think the poem represents the feeling she had of being misheard- i like the Sandburg poem- i felt a lot like that when i lost my parents-it was so unreal, i felt that at sometime they would just come back and life would carry on as before. it takes a long time to accept that the loss is permanent.

itSFMe 06-25-2008 03:33 PM

Re: Nordinho Pub Part 33 1/3

Yeah, you're quite right :nodder: That loss is permanent is a fact which somehow the mind/heart refuses to grasp...
Spoiler:
:hug3

Words are always difficult in such cases, it is amazing that people know how to put it into poems or songs. And it can help :)
