Sorry to ask, but why would you say that?

Body language is a fascinating subject. I find it huge when dealing with members of the opposite sex. A friend of mine back in uni read a great deal about it, and its role in human relations. It was something he was very interested in. We discussed it quite a bit a few years ago, and used to actually play out scenarios in bars to try stuff out. You can really pick up quite a bit from body language when interacting with the opposite sex, well, with anyone I imagine. We had a lot of fun times with it. I think anyone who has studied the subject at any length is at a serious advantage when relating with others.

Edit: Kiljo, I agree with Lucy's assertion. I think that people who may have esteem issues will use humour as a means to redirect any attention, perceived or otherwise, from themselves to the humourous topic of conversation. I have no training in psychology or anything, but I think that is sort of an established theory.
Edit again: I think it also offers another means of social acceptance.

I can see where lucy gets that... I mean sometimes it seems when people joke around about stuff ... it seems like they might really be thinking that but not want to say it... like if someone jokes about the way your shirt looks... and they say just kidding... but in reality it was truth. Its kinda like they just cant bare to tell the truth.

I always wonder if people really mean what they are joking about...not that its allways a bad thing but. which brings me to another facination of mine... I always want to know what is going through peoples minds and how they way of thinking works.

yeah I agree with you lucy body language is very facinating

lol I feel like Im talking about 59 different things but they are kinda all related

edit: hey rachel.

but isnt everyones body language differ luvin? I mean... okay I dont know what I mean but oh well

Hi Rachel!!

Kiljo, it's just one of many things that people do, unconsciously to cover up a lack in confindence.

Luvin - I did study body language myself a few years ago. I used to teach communication/confidence building skills in seminars, and body language played a bit part.

Mags, there is an old saying - many a true word said in jest. It's hard to know really if someone is joking or not...I guess you have to consider the rest of the body language the person is using at the time. There are so many different factors that you have to take into account when considering if someone is joking with you.

Hey Rachel! How are you this evening?

Mags; Lucy can probably answer this better than me, but while people are different, there is most certainly commonality in the types of body language that we convey. There were things we would pick up in girls that were generally common across the board with regard to determining their interest in you. Things like fiddling with their hair, neck exposure, eye contact, open posture as opposed to a closed, guarded one. It was interesting stuff.

And about reading people's minds? You figure that out, then please let me know!

When I was working in Greece as a holiday rep, I used to love going out in the evenings to my local pub with my friends - just sitting outside the bars and watching people was a great pastime of ours. We used to be able to guess who fancied who just by watching the body language. Bearing in mind that the bars were usually full of holiday makers, and all that that entails.
