sparky is watching election results in the Netherlands.

Such a resounding NO. Is it the "opposite" of family planning/contraception/abortion?

Or something as simple as suffrage. Was her husband's business publishing? Medicine?

I didn't mean the "no" to be "resounding"....she didn't have anything to do with family planning.
But yes! Her husband was in the publishing business...

Isabella Beeton I believe. Rather ironic that her writings were about women's domestic concerns. But I suppose it was a step in the right direction.

And there is a book too, if you are interested.
Although her book was about domestic affairs, let's not forget that she came out of the kitchen and got a job outside the home...very modern...

Over to you, Sparky

That's an interesting article. Wikipedia claims that much of her work, including many recipes, was plagiarized. Perhaps she should have titled her book "Mrs. Beeton's Anthology of..." And avoided controversy.

Pearla wrote to me, asking if I would do the next one in GTHC because Sparky is ill.
*get well soon dear Sparky*

It's been a long time since I've done one of these and I'm not very good at them, but I'll give it a shot.

The next character was born on a cold November night on a farm.
Despite his relatively common birth place he was of noble descendancy and he lived up to that nobility all through his life.

He grew up in a fine house with great intellectual people surrounding him.
Then, when he was only 19 a deep tragedy occured and he had to live elsewhere. However he couldn't settle there and he returned to his previous home, but there was no place for him there anymore, nor did he feel at home anymore.
He had no choise but to live on the streets from that day on.
Things were very difficult for him at first, but later on people took pitty on him and provided him with food and health care whenever he needed it.

He became well known locally and a student of a university wrote about him. After a few years of local publishes his story became news in a big national newspaper and made him a celebrity.
However he didn't care about that and he remained living as he had for so many years, on the streets.

He died of cancer at the age of 89 and was mourned by many. His body was burried with the utmost respect and later on there was a statue errected for him to commemorate his greatness.

I'm not showing you his face as this would make things too easy, but this is where he is burried..........
