Spoiler: |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE That was cute! Music What Liverpool band popularized the Doors' "People Are Strange?" in the 80's? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Would that have been Echo and the Bunnymen?? :jossun: |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Apparently, yes! Never heard of them myself so I'm just going by word... |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Great! I've heard of them...but I've never listened to their music.... Catchall What drug rose to prominence in some trendy nightclubs and was legal until 1985 in the US? It's still one of the most widely used drugs today. |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Would that be Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, otherwise known as Ecstasy? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Well, just ecstasy would have sufficed, but you are right! :lol9: Your turn, hun! :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Oh fcol!! Hels, you're a maniac!! :hug3 Jess - I wasn't sure what you wanted exactly... you know how you can get... :whistling > j/k darlin'! Event The US mining of what nation's harbors created a congressional frenzy in April of 1984 and was a case heard by the International Court of Justice? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Quote:
But, Hels, you can have those bonus points for the nice molecular drawing of ecstasy. As for your question, K'lyn, would that be Nicaragua?? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Oh man!! Are you mad at me again??? :banghead: I'm sorry, Jess.... I was only playin'... :depressed And yes, darlin', it is Nicaragua. *sniff, sniff* |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE No, hun, I'm not mad at you at all! :hug4 I was just playing right back with you. :) Don't be sad!! So next I'll try: Movies What popular animated film breathed life back into the animated feature film genre after a string of failures throughout the 80's? And when was it originally released? For bonus points, can you name the siblings of the main character? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE I think that the film you refer to is 'Who fwamed Woger Wabbit' (:)), first released by Disney in 1988. But (at least for now...) I can't remember Roger having any brothers or sisters.... If you prefer Eddie Valiant as the main character, he had a brother Teddy who was killed by a 'maniac red-eyed toon', which of course is the reason why Eddie hates toons :). |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Thanks for the hug, luvvie. Made me feel loads better!! I think it was The Little Mermaid which was originally released in November 17, 1989. Her siblings were Aquata, Andrina, Attina, Adella, Arista and Alana.... I think. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Well I don't know for sure which was the more popular film but the one I was actually looking for was The Little Mermaid. So, K'lyn has it right and she got the bonus points! :arms: I got this question from what I read in wiki, though I did add the "popular" part. :lol9: I just know it's definitely a Disney favorite and it was definitely one of mine (and still is for that matter :winky:). And I remember it being big when it came out, but considering I was a 9 year old little girl at that time, I guess I could be biased on that. :rotfl: Though I did see Roger Rabbit too... :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE  Yeah, there might be a bit o' difference, eh, Hels? :winky: Catchall Who was the actress that played Ferris Bueller's sister? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE That's an easy one! :lol9: I don't even have to look it up! It was Jennifer Grey, who also starred in Dirty Dancing. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Very good, Jess. :) You're up, darlin'. |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Great. Thanks! Catchall What was found 40 miles off the coast of Key West, Florida in 1985? :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE That was the Nuestra Seņora de Atocha, a Spanish galleon that was part of the yearly Spanish treasure fleets. Not a bad find so it seems  |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Yup, that would be correct! :arms: Nice job and a find on that second article. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Next: showbiz Now, if you were from Mypos, what would be your alternative to 'America'? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE I'm not quite sure what you're looking for here, Hels. I know who is from Mypos but your question isn't clear to me. |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE If you know who I'm talking about, try to remember how you first met him...... :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE I'm as confused as K'lyn, but I was reading up on this yesterday and after your last comment I have an idea. :) You are referring to Perfect Strangers, and when we first met Balki, he's traveling with a suitcase that says "America or Burst." So are you looking for the alternative being Burst?? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE 1 Attachment(s) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Phew! *wipes sweat off brow* That was a tough one! :lol9: Catchall What happened in 1982 that was described as being "grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and unprecedented"?? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Would that be the double murders that led to the arrest of Malcolm MacArthur in the house of the Republic's Attorney General, Patrick Connolly? Not sure really how you want this answered so I figured I'd start with that. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE I'm not really sure how I wanted it answered either. :rotfl: But you got the main points, so that works for me! :nodder: Nice job, hun! You're up. |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Oh yippee!! :cheer: Television In the tv sitcom Small Wonder who were the three irritating neighbours? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Would that be Brandon, Bonnie, and Harriet Brendel?? :jossun: |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE :arms: Yes!! That's them!! Your turn, luv. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Awe, don't poke fun! :silly: I used to watch that show when I was little! Catchall What was the controversy surrounding the song "When Sonny Sniffs Glue" in the mid 80's? :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE The controversy surrounding that song was that Rick Dees asked Marvin Fisher for permission to use his song, When Sonny Gets Blue, in a non-offensive parody of the performance by Johnny Mathis but Fisher refused. Dees decided to go ahead and do the parody which resulted in Fisher suing Dees for copyright infringement. He lost his case in court. ... I think. |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Yup, that would be it. :nodder: Nice and thorough! Your tun. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Sweet! Thanks, luv. :) Television On the tv sitcom Growing Pains, what was the name of the Seavers youngest child? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE That would be Christine Ellen, or 'Chrissy', who suffered a severe case of SORAS when in the summer of 1990 she suddenly grew up from being about a year and a half to age six. Whether that involved additional growing pains is unknown :). |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE  I'm sure it must have. And yes, she certainly did suffer a wicked case of SORAS.. poor child. Oh, and you're right, btw! :lol9: |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Literature The 1980's saw the first publication of a now well known historical whodunnit set in the 14th century. The names of the main character and his help (who is also the narrator of the story) are puns on characters from Sherlock Holmes. What is the name of this mediaeval murder mystery? For bonus points: which actor played the main character in the film adaptation? |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Would that be The Name of the Rose or Il nome della rosa as it was originally published? If so, Sean Connery played William of Baskerville in the film version. :) |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Points and bonus points ;). Your turn :jossun:! |
Re: 80's TRIVIA CHALLENGE Whoo Hoo! *does a happy dance* I love getting bonus points! :lol9: Catchall During the 80's if you said 'Give me a light,' it meant what? |
