Sons of Egypt was a band formed by Brian 'Nasher' Nass with Peter Gill and Holly Johnson. In 1980, Gill and Johnson left the band to form Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Nash joined sometime later, so SoE could be considered a precursor for FGTH. All three members of the band played in the FGTH of 'Relax' fame. Another contender would be Hollycaust, formed by Holly Johnson with drummer Phil Hurst and bassist Ambrose of Nightmares In Wax and guitarist Steve Lovell from Tontrix. It was this group that first adopted the name Frankie Goes To Hollywood, but it quickly folded. Holly Johnson was the only member who later played in the new band he formed with Mark O'Toole, Peter Gill, Mark’s Brother Jed O'Toole (later replaced by Nash) and Sonya Mazunda (quickly replaced by Paul Rutherford). This band was called FGTH again, after Johnson's first FGTH (ex-Hollycaust) |
