With Helanren saying this I thought the tree might be an Elm.
Made me think about 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', but not quite sure that has ever been made into a play.

Re: Pictionary

It's not an Oak SF, I looked for a famous example of the type of tree so I didn't get told "that's nothing like an X"

Oh, neija, you are not correct but wise ;)

Re: Pictionary

Ok, I stand corrected :)

And the search goes on... ;)

Edit Is the tree Hangman's Elm?

Re: Pictionary

It's not his tree hon... but you have enough information

Now.... Dylan... what did he do?

You have plenty of time, will probably be tomorrow afternoon when I'm back on, unless you get it in the next 10 mins :P

:lol9: Yeah, like I need time - only been at this for a week so I guess more time will really be helpful :rotfl:

Ok, well - he sang

Edit :arms: I got another pager
Spoiler:
:hug3 Thanks :)
And I think this might be it. It fits both Dylan and the trees ;)
Desire under the elms
This play from 1924 became a movie in 1952, and apparently it might be on the screen in 2009 again :)

Can't say I would have made the connection "Dylan - Desire" myself :bonk: I was searching for a play with Hurricanes though, so I got somewhat close :lol9:

Well, we'll see whether this is it :)

...Well, we'll see whether this is it :)

Pending Jimboo's official confirmation of course, I can already suggest to you to start thinking about another picture....!. It seems a very good guess...

Spoiler:

itSFMe 03-07-2009 11:49 AM

Re: Pictionary

Yeah, I read those and I wondered why on earth you'd think about a street car (didn't focus on desire :whistling). Didn't understand RBud's guess either  I tried to find the link, but couldn't :lol9:

So yes, it would have helped if I had seen why you made those guesses ;) Trust me, I tried :)

Ow, and please tell me - where did you find that tree?!?

Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman but chose Dylan as his artist name after Dylan Thomas who wrote Under Milk Wood.

For the tree, Jimbo had mentioned that he had traced it from a picture of a famous one, so I searched Wikipedia for 'elm', got a list of famous ones, and just did a google image search for those names. Joe Pullen's tree was the third in the list I think. Of course, by then I knew I was looking for elms , I think it would be hard to find by searching "famous tree"..... though sometimes it can be done even with only general search terms.
Spoiler:
The famous Braveheart pictionary had an image of cutlery shaped like bird's/duck feet on a hanging signboard. I don't exactly remember how I found it, but a google image search for 'sign duck's feet cutlery' will give you some pictures similar to the one in the pictionary, so that is how I found that it had to do with the restaurant "The Fat Duck".
It often helps to just adjust the search terms a bit, 'duck's feet knife spoon fork' or 'sign duck's feet spoon knife fork' don't work for instance
To give another example how much Google image can help: I wanted to find the picture Dylan used for the Desire cover, to illustrate that post about A Streetcar Named Desire. So I googled "desire" and the fourth image on the first page was from this site :rotfl:! Not what I was looking for, but even better!

itSFMe 03-07-2009 02:17 PM

Re: Pictionary

Thanks :) Now I finally found the tree :arms:

I'm using google image all the time, but for some reason I always use the wrong "search terms" For example, I too searched all the Elm trees, but didn't find Joe Pullen's tree resambling Jimbo's :dizzy: Obviously, I was wrong :) I probably think too fast "this can't be it". ;)

And yes, I understand your guesses now - but only after I figured it was Bob Dylan and his famous LP was named Desire :bonk:

Ow well, we'll have to see - would be quite something if it all turns out to be wrong ... No idea where to start then!

Jimborama 03-07-2009 04:11 PM

Re: Pictionary

Yes SF you are correct :)

I found the Elm by googling Famous Elms and I settled on Dylan's Desire by looking at Wiki's list of options for the word. You have solved it perfectly, though a special mention goes to Hel for showing off and finding the actual images of the tree.

Well, I think it's safe to say many people helped to resolve this problem :lol9: Thank you all, I hope mine will be a bit more obvious (though I seriously think I had a plate for my eyes last week) ;)

Of course it is a song

Helanren 03-07-2009 06:52 PM

Re: Pictionary

Wow! Not called despair for nothing ;)! That's a cheery image.....

Ok, first thought: Tears for Fears. I have looked at a list of their songs, and judging by the titles alone, about 50% of their oeuvre should qualify for this image of fear, sorrow and despair ("Mad World", "Suffer The Children", "The Hurting", "Watch Me Bleed", "Tears Roll Down", "My Life In The Suicide Ranks", "Always In The Past"; and that's from 2 albums only :)!)

But....I have yet to find one that more specifically refers to war, Auschwitz, Golgotha etc. So, searching on...

itSFMe 03-08-2009 05:37 PM

Re: Pictionary

Maybe you shouldn't focus on that band too much ;)

Helanren 03-09-2009 09:19 PM

Re: Pictionary

Ok, skip Tears for Fears. There is a small teardrop near the man's face, so maybe the song has to do with 'crying'?
Lots of tites around (including "Sometimes I Cry When I Watch Tv" by the Muzzarelas(??) ;)), but none that I found that matches the other clues...

itSFMe 03-10-2009 09:46 AM

Re: Pictionary

:arms: You're close ;)

Additional clue
Spoiler:
One thing I'm pretty sure isn't in other songs
Spoiler:
Right corner, you mentioned Golgotha so you've got the right person in mind. But it's not about the person, it's about what he says.

Helanren 03-10-2009 10:11 AM

Re: Pictionary

 I'd seen that (pretty subtle, nice!) and found
Spoiler:
"Forgive Them Father" by Lauryn Hill and "Father Forgive Them (For They Do Not Know)" by Elysian Fields
but those didn't really fit either..;)

itSFMe 03-10-2009 10:13 AM

Re: Pictionary

It's not in the title
Spoiler:
And not in the English language (the song itself is, those words aren't). And those are not the words either. :dizzy: If you get what I mean :lol9:
You were closer to the title in your previous post ;)

I have decided, after reading that, to go a sit in a corner and quietly jibber to myself...

Helanren 03-10-2009 09:10 PM

Re: Pictionary

We'll have to go step by step, I suppose ;). I think SF means "Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani" or "Eli Eli lema sabachthani" ("My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"), so either (part of) that comes back in the lyrics, or we're looking for a band/artist called Eli, Eloi, Eloy, something like that...

edit: found one song that contains that phrase in Aramaic: "As it was in the beginning..." by Jedi Mind Tricks
Spoiler:
(which, as we all know, consists of Ikon the Verbal Hologram and Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind ).
The song can be found on their album "The Psycho-Social, Chemical, Biological & Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Consciousness" and the text, which not surprisingly is somewhat obscure, does have a reference to Nazi eugenics, but I can't see anybody crying (unless you don't like hip hop that much, perhaps...). So I'm not yet convinced :doubt:.

rbud57 03-10-2009 09:26 PM

Re: Pictionary

The only song I've been able to think of throughout this is "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister.

It's based on the phrase "Kýrie, eléison" meaning "Lord, have mercy" in Greek - but it seems to be more of a Catholic thing, and I don't see how it would relate to the rest of the picture clue...?

itSFMe 03-11-2009 09:52 AM

Re: Pictionary

Nice guesses  As you two say already though, the other clues don't match.

HelanRen is closest
Spoiler:
Right words, but in the song not all of them are mentioned.
And Jimbo - I don't think that will work...

Jimborama 03-12-2009 01:04 AM

Re: Pictionary

Something caught my eye in Hel's post, there is a band called Eloy, and I remembered (correctly) that they did 'down' songs... the problem is that of the ten or so I have looked at they all sound sufficiently sorrowful - so, think I'm off back into my corner
Spoiler:

Got it!

Nice one :jossun:! (but I suppose The Lady In Red just didn't have enough visual clues for you....?)

itSFMe 03-12-2009 09:42 AM

Re: Pictionary

:arms: Yeah, you got it! :arms:

And , that one would have been a bit too obvious ;) I did think about a red lady as additional clue though :lol9:
I thought this one would be easier than it prooved to be, as for example the words "soldier train cried lyrics" lead directly to the song. But I guess it's really just what words you use, for "cry" won't allow you to get there

Your turn, HelanRen ;)

Re: Pictionary

Looks like you're trying to set that horse on fire!

Thus, first thought:
Fire Horses (Lapko), but I think the lyrics are a bit too obscure ...

It could of course be "(black) beauty" instead of horse... What about
Beauty on the Fire (Natalie Imbruglia)

Or, of course, going with burning (as we see no flames yet) Nickelback - Burn it to the ground, from the DARK HORSE album.

:rotfl: As you see, I'm undecided ;) I actually think it is none of the above, but they all make sense in some way :lol9:

Jimborama 03-12-2009 05:05 PM

Re: Pictionary

I definitly know the horse's name, as does SF but I'm thinking measurement and taking the magnifying glass as a close up tool, not a burning tool!

itSFMe 03-12-2009 05:35 PM

Re: Pictionary

:lol9: I really don't know what to say - it never occured to me that it could be used that way :wall: :crazy1:

Any how, if I try to turn the clue that way - I can't think of any song :doubt: Or it should be that we have to focus on the neck of a beauty ... Or wait - what about sleeping beauty? Given the girl is in her night gowns!

Jimmy Dean - to a Sleeping Beauty
It got one line with "neck" in the lyrics - don't think that is enough to explain the pictionary though

No, I think I'll stick to the burn...

Helanren 03-13-2009 10:03 PM

Re: Pictionary

Well, after such a promising start and with all parts of the answer already mentioned in the first hour or so, I thought we would have a quick solution, but alas, those parts have not yet been combined to give the full answer..:).

Additional tip
Spoiler:
maybe focus on the band's name first and get the song from there, that will be easier than the other way round ;)

itSFMe 03-14-2009 12:41 PM

Re: Pictionary

I am even more lost now than I was before :lol9: I am still looking, just none of the things I find make remotely sense ;)

Ow well... let's see. I found out there's no band called Black Beauty. None that is called Burned Beauty either, I think somebody missed out on a nice band name there

There is however a band called "Horse the band", with a song called Octopus on Fire. :doubt:  Can't be it ...

Searching on ;)

Edit (Monday): I stumbled upon this one: Die Krupps - Black Beauty, white Heat. I think that could fit, if not for the band's name... I don't think it means anything, not even in German (just a family name).

Helanren 03-16-2009 08:30 PM

Re: Pictionary

Well, we're getting closer (more or less :))...

Another hint perhaps?
Spoiler:
Neither the "burning" nor the "close up" function of the magnifier are important by themselves.

Spoiler:
However, particularly if you speak Dutch, German, Norwegian, Swedish, or even Polish I think, it helps to think of that burning function....(well, I suppose it could help as well if you speak English, French, Spanish, Portuguese etc., but only if you are etymologically knowledgeable...) ;).

itSFMe 03-17-2009 10:07 AM

Re: Pictionary

Ow hjelp, I know Dutch and Norwegian, quite a bit German and Swedish... and I'm still stumped :lol9: Now I feel even more like I am overlooking something :rotfl:

Ow well, searching on :)

Edit Completely ignoring your hints, what aboutTherion - The beauty in Black. Unfortunatly, Therion means beast and has nothing to do with burning - unless you want to connect it to devil and hell fire :doubt: There is also Coronatis - Beauty in Black; again, form Germany :)

Now what did I do to deserve that..???

Let's see: one hour and 2 minutes after posting the image, SF has (without realizing it, I admit ;))mentioned both the name of the band and the songtitle already; you've mentioned the song indirectly. Since then, the band has been mentioned in the thread once again
Spoiler:
hint: think 1970's
and the song at least twice (more if you count the 'distorted' forms).

So it seems it should not be that difficult to give the answer in full, if you concentrate on the whole point of the image....

I don't think I would call myself a prog rocker, though I like quite a few of the bands that Wikipedia lists under progressive rock. I didn't really know that much about Focus, other than Thijs van Leer playing the flute, not that common in rockmusic... And I like Hocus Pocus
