Yep, right with the first try :)! Your turn :jossun:

Re: Pictionary

Well, it is an excellent image of a mime, and my mind just went there right away! Very clever clue, Helanren! I might even call it ingenious!

(Who's the mime? Just wondering!)

Okay, from my depleted supply! :winky:

Book Title

EDIT: Yes, it really IS a book this time! :lol9:

It's Richard Knight, you can contact him here if you need a performer for your next birthday party, or take a course in physical comedy with him at the Circus Space, east London. :)

For the book, I'll go with Silent Spring by Rachel Carson

Awww, did I make it too easy again? :lol9:

You're up once more, Helanren!

(Oh, and I guess I wouldn't know the mime, then, I thought he looked familiar . . . )

You guys are fast (and very good w/the clues and guessing). I'm going to have to keep an eye on this thread so I can play the next round. :)

Ok, I did say I'll keep an eye on this thread but I'm rubbish (as I'm finding out) at pictionary.

Hmm, I not sure what book this is; I see a fighting (boxing?) Irish man. How about "The Fighting Irish: Inside the Ring with Boxing's Celtic Warriors" by Anderson?

Nope, the title is not right, but you are seeing the right things..... :)

rbud57 06-12-2008 03:56 PM

Re: Pictionary

Well, there's a book called "Notre Dame Vs. the Klan" (of all things!) by Todd Tucker - is that the right direction?

Helanren 06-12-2008 04:08 PM

Re: Pictionary

Warm, but not correct; I'm looking for a classic novel ;)

rjk1010 06-12-2008 07:59 PM

Re: Pictionary

My answer's probably not right but how about "The Quiet Man and Other Stories" by Walsh?
Warmer? Colder? Or arctic? :p

colder, brrr... :)! Your first observation was correct, but you needed to interpret that as an American would, like Rosebud did:)! Now it needs a European mind for the finishing touch, I suppose....

Re: Pictionary

Is it the Hunchback of Notre Dame?

That would account for what I thought was a huge right arm.

I'll be gone for a couple of days and won't return until late Saturday. If my answer is correct, will someone post for me please.

rjk1010 06-13-2008 07:59 PM

Re: Pictionary

@Helanren, I'm neither American nor European so maybe that's why I don't know the answer? :p

What how about vlc's guess? :)

 Well, it was world literature.... a famous 1831 novel by Victor Hugo (and come to think of it, a Disney animation as well :)).

Anyway, vlc had the correct answer

So over to her :jossun:

edit: I just see she has gone away, so if you wish and since you did recognize a fighting Irishman, go ahead :)!

Re: Pictionary

I know of Hugo's "Notre-Dame De Paris" (Hunchback of Notre Dame) but it didn't click when I look at the picture of the fighting Irish (his back looks natural... :p). What did I tell you? I'm just bad at pictionary.

And ok, I'll take her turn; it seems like I always get to draw even when I don't guess right! It's late here so I'll have to return later with a picture.

I agree there is always a risk in choosing a book that has been translated with different titles ;).

The French original (and e.g. the Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Finnish translations) just mention the cathedral, in Dutch it's called 'De Klokkenluider van de Notre Dame' or 'The bell-ringer (?) of the Notre Dame' (similar titles in German, Danish, Norwegian), but of course the hunchback of the English title gave me the most to work with
Spoiler:
If I understand Wikipedia and Babelfish correctly, both the Chinese

巴黎聖母院》(法語:Notre-Dame de Paris,也譯做鐘樓怪人、鐘樓駝俠)是法國文學家維克多·雨果所著,初版的小說。 , ""Notre Dame Cathedral" (French: Notre-Dame de Paris, also translates is the bell tower odd person, the bell tower camel variant) is French writer Weikeduo · Gugo, first edition novel."

and the Japanese

ノートルダムのせむし男」(The Hunchback of Notre Dame)としても知られている。, "The “Notre Dame placing insect man” (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) as, being known, it is"

also know this as an alternative title though ;)

Ok, here's my picture. Sorry it took so long but I was out all day plus I didn't know what to draw! I hope I didn't make it too easy.

Song title.

Helanren 06-15-2008 12:53 AM

Re: Pictionary

My first association was Psalms 23:5 (well, to be fair I had to look up the exact place, but I knew it was a well known bible verse :)), then I found out that that was a songtitle as well, so I'll try

"My Cup Runneth Over" by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, from the 1966 Broadway musical I Do! I Do!
Here performed by Ed Ames :):

That's an album title (the song title is 'Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)'), but I think you are right ;)!. I wondered about the colouring of the drops before...:)

Good picture (and a good song: though I didn't know it, I liked what I saw/heard on YouTube) :jossun:

rjk1010 06-15-2008 05:31 PM

Re: Pictionary

Hooray vlc~! You're right, it is indeed Train's "Drops of Jupiter".

And good try Helanren. Sorry you had the wrong answer but thank you for posting the video of the song (and yes, it's a good song and I'm glad you like it too ).

Your turn, vlc. :)

I'm hoping I might not be right ;) but is it "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel?

You are right! Good job!

I need to remember how to add a pic without using the url. Im very limited this way. *reading directions again*

Try imageshack because you don't need to register and it's pretty fast. :)

I'll have to return later with a picture.

[EDIT]

Another song title.

another nice pic there RJK. :)

is it

though i'm probably wrong. :silly:

I'll guess it might be "Blowin' in the Wind" done by Bob Dylan? (among others)

Thanks tacjoe, I had fun drawing the picture. :)

rbud and tacjoe, you're on the right path; the title has something to do with "wind".

No, it's not that (a good song though :)). I picked orange for the windsock randomly; orange's a nice bright colour so it's purely a coincidence that it's also The Netherlands' national colour... ;)

How about another clue? The song title has 3 words (and remember it has something to do with wind).

Good tries but no, not the right answers. :)

I said the song title has something to do with wind but doesn't have the actual word in the title. Any of you familiar with greek mythology (a big hint!)?

The Zephyr Song

I think I didn't too good a job with the picture; I should have included in my picture something that would indicate the wind direction...
