Re: Pictionary 1 Attachment(s) Good, that narrows down the search significantly : amazon.co.uk lists just 12,029 books referring to 'spider', but 26,383 books referring to 'glass' (though amazingly it tells me 'Your search "the" did not match any products in: Books'!), so I'll start with the spider ones: How about "Bat Bones and Spider Stew" by Michelle Poploff ? Attachment 34674 |
Re: Pictionary :yikes: Although this scarily seems like the perfect guess, it's unfortunately not what I was thinking of. Actually none of these ingredients really matter, they are just for decoration. I hope this doesn't lead to more confusion. ;) |
Re: Pictionary The only thing I can think of without googling yet is "Along Came A Spider". I don't know if the glass is also just for decoration. I figured, you had to add in the spider, so that MUST be the MOST important thing. Hope I'm right :) |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
The only reason why I didn't really believe in my previous guess was that you said you had it in your own bookcase ; otherwise, as you say, it was perfect! |
Re: Pictionary Sorry Dawn, the spider isn't important at all. Only one of the items on the picture is essential for the title, the rest I just added to create a certain atmosphere, a supernatural and disturbing one because that's what the book is about, it's said to be a classic of the genre... |

"In a Glass Darkly", by Sheridan Le Fanu? |
Re: Pictionary 26,000 glass books, and the first one you mentioned is right! :arms: Congratulations! :arms: |

Re: Pictionary I knew there would be a drawback! Actually I'm quite relieved I was wrong, so I don't need to make up a new one now... |
Re: Pictionary I can't quite make out what is in the mirror... I'm thinking that might be an important clue? And I would have guessed "Through the looking glass" as well since the girl in the picture looks like Alice but apparently it wasn't so... :) |

Re: Pictionary Here's another far-fetched guess: "Imagined Cities:The Urban Mirror"(not even sure the second half is actually part of the book title or just the article where the book is written about-but it sounded good, so I thought might as well throw that in:biggrin:) |
Re: Pictionary Sorry, no...(but then you didn't really think so, did you :)? I do try to select a subject people are likely to have heard off :)!) |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
Oh, dang it! but, I thought it was a good try, one never knows:biggrin: I thought the same as everyone else too at the beginning, she does looks like Alice :) Oh well, gotta go back to googling for the right title then:jossun: |

Maybe it'll help if I change the mirror and the overall image to look like this? Attachment 34705Attachment 34707 P.S. I just saw on Wikipedia that the US publishers, for some weird reason of their own, decided originally to publish this book under another and much less intriguing name. So, allthough it can be found under its proper title on American booksites, you may actually have read it under another name (or, again if you happen to live in the US, seen the film (clue :)!) that was made of it under again another name, why can't they just let things be....?) |
Re: Pictionary A town called alice? aka a town like alice although that one doesn't seem to have a different name for the film version  or Alice in den Städten |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
The novel by Nevil Shute is called 'A town like Alice'; it was published in the U.S. as "The Legacy" (according to Wikipedia) and the 1956 movie was known in US cinemas (again according to Wikipedia) as "Rape of Malaya" (of all things...) Your turn next :jossun: |
Re: Pictionary Gah. Life is too chockfull of craziness for me to do a picture right now. Anyone want my turn? (ps/ Yay Nordino is up again!) |
Re: Pictionary I don't mind continuing, just finished the one on "Nord2"! Another booktitle, though not high literature this time....: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...n/boekpict.jpg Bonus points if you recognize the (2, possibly 3 :)) references in the image.... |
Re: Pictionary 1 Attachment(s) I want to say the book title is "To Catch a Spy" - but there more than one of the same title. I don't know which one to pick without checking them for, maybe, references to the Big Ben Clock Tower - or London? I do know Mad Magazine's Spy vs. Spy guy when I see him! Attachment 34768 And the other guy with the net is from a cartoon by Ellis Nadler, but don't know what reference there might be for it. The last image on the bottom right looks irritatingly familiar, is it from a flash game we played early this year, maybe? |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
You are right though, Big Ben is a reference to London. As an extra clue: the booktitle is a single word. The book itself caused quite an uproar when first published. You have gotten some bonus points already however: MAD's Spy of course and even Ellis Nadler (that was unintended: I just 'stole' an image of a guy with a butterflynet, but the artist's name wasn't given and I didn't recognize it, allthough it seemed a familiar style ). As for the image of the grass: also look at the building next to the Tower, and try to think about what you were doing this weekend...;)! |
Re: Pictionary Could it be "Spies" by Michael Frayn? (though I can't seem to find reference to it as causing "an uproar.") Not having any luck with the building next to the Tower (looks bombed out, but sort of has a face!) > |
Re: Pictionary Nope, it's not Spies...;). The building + the grass was just a little bit of fun, it has no bearing on the booktitle, so don't get any nightmares about it ! |
Re: Pictionary Ahhhh, I get it! :winky: The building & grass are from the Daymare Town games, right? But, sadly, still no new guess on the book title. :depressed |
Re: Pictionary All bonus points gone now :)! Since you have all the ingredients for the title already, it's difficult to giv another clue, but perhaps it will help if I tell you that the book was originally banned in the UK (allthough available everywhere else)? |
Re: Pictionary This is what I found on one word title books that are banned in the UK: Spycatcher by Peter Wright(Autobiography) "Banned in UK 1985-1988 for revealing secrets. Wright was a former MI5 intelligence officer and his book was banned before it was even published in 1987." -- quoted from Wikipedia Additional info can be found here: Spycatcher |
Re: Pictionary Yep, you've got it :)! Your turn again :jossun: |

Re: Pictionary Is it A Shot of Pink Martini? I kinda hope I'm wrong. I don't know how to post a pic. I'm looking for directions on nord right now. Edit: Ok I read the direction. Not hard at all :) |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
pay attention to the middle image, that's probably the most important... |
Re: Pictionary I can't figure out what the image on the right is... but the one in the middle, that has something to do with Pink Floyd? Can't think of the significance with regards to the clue except when I googled more info on the logo I learnt that some hate groups use it as their insignias. |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
Off topic a bit...well, kinda... Spoiler: Anyways, I might have given too much of a clue, but I feel I have to, as I'm leaving on tuesday and won't be on to monitor it, so I'm hoping someone will have guessed by Sunday night(tomorrow), 11:00 PM Canadian central time at the latest. If worst comes to worst, I'll leave the answer to someone else and they can monitor this thread for me  |
Re: Pictionary Quote:
Spoiler: Based on the gun and the martini (which looks 'shaken, not stirred' :)) on the right, I have been trying to find a James Bond title, but that doesn't work.... edit: hadn't seen Dawn's answer when I posted this, but with the extra clue I'll go for "Double Tap" by Steve Martini :). |
Re: Pictionary Quote:

Re: Pictionary Would never have gotten the reference with the gun and "double" hammer (tap). :) I wasn't familiar with the term "double tap" (well except for the ones in my bathroom/kitchen :p). Good work, Helanren and a good pictionary clue, Dawn. :) |
