Good, that narrows down the search significantly : amazon.co.uk lists just 12,029 books referring to 'spider', but 26,383 books referring to 'glass' (though amazingly it tells me 'Your search "the" did not match any products in: Books'!), so I'll start with the spider ones:

How about

"Bat Bones and Spider Stew" by Michelle Poploff ?

:yikes: Although this scarily seems like the perfect guess, it's unfortunately not what I was thinking of.
Actually none of these ingredients really matter, they are just for decoration.
I hope this doesn't lead to more confusion. ;)

Re: Pictionary

The only thing I can think of without googling yet is "Along Came A Spider". I don't know if the glass is also just for decoration. I figured, you had to add in the spider, so that MUST be the MOST important thing. Hope I'm right :)

maybe not, but it will lead to double, double toil and trouble.....
The only reason why I didn't really believe in my previous guess was that you said you had it in your own bookcase ; otherwise, as you say, it was perfect!

Aventura 05-26-2008 04:49 AM

Re: Pictionary

Sorry Dawn, the spider isn't important at all.
Only one of the items on the picture is essential for the title, the rest I just added to create a certain atmosphere, a supernatural and disturbing one because that's what the book is about, it's said to be a classic of the genre...

That would be "Through the Looking Glass", I assume?

Can it really be that easy? I  the Alice books since childhood, I think they were the first books I actually read alone.

Here's another far-fetched guess: "Imagined Cities:The Urban Mirror"(not even sure the second half is actually part of the book title or just the article where the book is written about-but it sounded good, so I thought might as well throw that in:biggrin:)

Helanren, thanks for the bigger view of the mirror. So it's a city of some sort (or

No, no and no....(and it certainly isn't 'New Amsterdam'), but in fact, the actual place shown is irrelevant.

Maybe it'll help if I change the mirror and the overall image to look like this?

Attachment 34705Attachment 34707

P.S. I just saw on Wikipedia that the US publishers, for some weird reason of their own, decided originally to publish this book under another and much less intriguing name. So, allthough it can be found under its proper title on American booksites, you may actually have read it under another name (or, again if you happen to live in the US, seen the film (clue :)!) that was made of it under again another name, why can't they just let things be....?)

Good enough, though you still seem to have some doubts...:).

The novel by Nevil Shute is called 'A town like Alice'; it was published in the U.S. as "The Legacy" (according to Wikipedia) and the 1956 movie was known in US cinemas (again according to Wikipedia) as "Rape of Malaya" (of all things...)

Your turn next :jossun:

Another booktitle, though not high literature this time....:

I want to say the book title is "To Catch a Spy" - but there more than one of the same title. I don't know which one to pick without checking them for, maybe, references to the Big Ben Clock Tower - or London?

I do know Mad Magazine's Spy vs. Spy guy when I see him!

Attachment 34768

And the other guy with the net is from a cartoon by Ellis Nadler, but don't know what reference there might be for it.

The last image on the bottom right looks irritatingly familiar, is it from a flash game we played early this year, maybe?

 I'm tempted to give it to you, never realized there were that many titles about catching a spy !

You are right though, Big Ben is a reference to London. As an extra clue: the booktitle is a single word. The book itself caused quite an uproar when first published.

You have gotten some bonus points already however: MAD's Spy of course and even Ellis Nadler (that was unintended: I just 'stole' an image of a guy with a butterflynet, but the artist's name wasn't given and I didn't recognize it, allthough it seemed a familiar style ).

As for the image of the grass: also look at the building next to the Tower, and try to think about what you were doing this weekend...;)!

rbud57 06-05-2008 02:28 AM

Re: Pictionary

Could it be "Spies" by Michael Frayn?

(though I can't seem to find reference to it as causing "an uproar.")

Not having any luck with the building next to the Tower (looks bombed out, but sort of has a face!) >

Helanren 06-05-2008 02:39 AM

Re: Pictionary

Nope, it's not Spies...;).

The building + the grass was just a little bit of fun, it has no bearing on the booktitle, so don't get any nightmares about it !

rbud57 06-06-2008 01:20 AM

Re: Pictionary

Ahhhh, I get it! :winky:

The building & grass are from the Daymare Town games, right?

But, sadly, still no new guess on the book title. :depressed

Helanren 06-06-2008 01:52 AM

Re: Pictionary

All bonus points gone now :)!

Since you have all the ingredients for the title already, it's difficult to giv another clue, but perhaps it will help if I tell you that the book was originally banned in the UK (allthough available everywhere else)?

Dawn 06-06-2008 02:46 AM

Re: Pictionary

This is what I found on one word title books that are banned in the UK:

Spycatcher by Peter Wright(Autobiography) "Banned in UK 1985-1988 for revealing secrets. Wright was a former MI5 intelligence officer and his book was banned before it was even published in 1987." -- quoted from Wikipedia

nope, sorry... but wow, you did notice one of the subtle clues  just that it's in a different context:biggrin:

pay attention to the middle image, that's probably the most important...

Re: Pictionary

I can't figure out what the image on the right is... but the one in the middle, that has something to do with Pink Floyd? Can't think of the significance with regards to the clue except when I googled more info on the logo I learnt that some hate groups use it as their insignias.

Rightmost image is what the result would be from the first image. But ONLY if you do it so well, like the middle image suggests(nothing to do with pink floyd). So if you do it well enough, what is it called? Look at the middle image for the(clue) slang term of what it's called. Remember, it's a book and vlc has already noticed the "initram=Martini" hint. :winky:

Off topic a bit...well, kinda...
Spoiler:
I kinda get the hate group thing since it is about weapons and what it can do. What I don't get in the world is, why all these wars? But, that's life...

Anyways, I might have given too much of a clue, but I feel I have to, as I'm leaving on tuesday and won't be on to monitor it, so I'm hoping someone will have guessed by Sunday night(tomorrow), 11:00 PM Canadian central time at the latest. If worst comes to worst, I'll leave the answer to someone else and they can monitor this thread for me

Good find! It's from the 1982 movie "Pink Floyd The Wall". There was this 'Hammer March' in the film, I'm not exactly sure where, but this video suggests it appears in the number "Outside The Wall":

Based on the gun and the martini (which looks 'shaken, not stirred' :)) on the right, I have been trying to find a James Bond title, but that doesn't work....

edit: hadn't seen Dawn's answer when I posted this, but with the extra clue I'll go for "Double Tap" by Steve Martini :).
