Re: Pictionary

Is it "Out of Africa" by Isak Dinesen (the pseudonym of Danish Baroness Karen von Blixen-Finecke), first published in 1937?

(I tend to doubt it, :doubt: because I'm not sure if changing the arrow color has anything to do with this one, either. Nor am I aware of a related TV series.)

Re: Pictionary

Ngggghh I've got a very strong feeling of knowing what it is, but I just can't seem to output the right key words in Google search!

Something to do with the "Axis of Evil"?

einkaldir 04-12-2008 12:16 PM

Re: Pictionary

There's a book called "Swimming up the Tigris", but probably not very well-known, not even talking about a TV series ....

Edit: it could be "Gilgamesh" by Stephen Mitchell ?

No, but the "form" of that title resembles mine....

Sort of the right area, but the geographical reference is to a much older place (though the story of the book only takes us back about a hundred years or so :))

An even older place than he lived in :)

OK, forget about the colour of the arrow ! I just wanted to make sure the red arrow wasn't read as 'don't go there, because it's not there', but obviously I shoudn't have worried!

So that blue part of the map wasn't a reference to "the flood" after all, no need to look for books about Noah either ?

Couldn't it just be "Out of Babylon" ?

No, the black part just meant "wrong part of the earth".

It's not "Out of Babylon" though ;).

"East of Eden"? "Into the West"?

(grasping at straws, here!) :lol9:

Re: Pictionary

You'll have to make choice there.... can't go in two directions at once :)!

rbud57 04-12-2008 07:19 PM

Re: Pictionary

Does that mean one of them is right? :lol9:

Eenie, meenie . . . I'm going with "East of Eden"? (that was my favorite choice.)

Helanren 04-12-2008 07:33 PM

Re: Pictionary

So we finally get there :)!

I would have thought it would be easier, with 'east' quite obvious to me and perhaps a little bit of thinking needed to realize that the area of the Euphrates and the Tigris is commonly the place where Eden is thought to be situated.... but I guess it wasn't that clear

Your turn next :jossun:

Okay, here's one - I admit I didn't "draw" much here, I'm more of a collage artist type. Now don't laugh! :lol9:

Wow, are you sure it's suitable for the PG-13 standards of Nord?

(maybe something they keep in the "over-18 room" at the video rental place?) :lol9:

Imdb gives its rating as "Portugal:M/12 / Iceland:16 / Canada:14 (Nova Scotia) / Canada:PA (Manitoba) / Finland:K-15 / Germany:16 / New Zealand:R13 / UK:15 / USA:R / Australia:M / Canada:R (Ontario) / Canada:13+ (Québec)" so I'm afraid the video rental that puts it in the back room won't make a lot of money out of it

Where did you get that crab ? I'm pretty sure I saw it recently

BTW TCO, is yours a movie as well? In which case, could it be "Busted"?

edit: well, that one, described by one viewer as "like 'Police Academy' if it were made by mongoloids" is in fact rated R , so maybe it isn't what you were looking for....

Darn - I thought maybe that "summer" movie was something good & juicy! :lol8:

Yeah, TCO, is it a movie?

If so, I'll throw out a guess of "Undercover Cop" (though I don't think it's right) - just to pursue the notion that you may be doing one of those "dingbat" things like Aventura did.

Oh, and Helanren - since you ask (giving out my secrets, here!) :lol9:
The crab is from this, which I found on Photobucket.
You'll see I used almost all of it.
Spoiler:
The crab & the sandcastle were just too cute to pass up!
:gr_cool: (wish I were heading for the beach!) :jossun:

go back through the game taking screenshots for future work!

Another book by a well known author (if this one again turns out to be harder than I thought, I have a second version with a clue about the author, but let's see how it goes without that first :))

Re: Pictionary

Helanren, you've certainly upped the bar for artwork, there - Animation! Love it!!

Could it be "Setting Free the Bears", by John Irving?

(I almost hope I'm wrong, interested to see your author clue, too!) :lol9:

Helanren 04-15-2008 12:37 AM

Re: Pictionary

Guess my "alter ego of the author" in the picture wasn't needed after all , but since you ask:

Over to you :jossun:!

Re: Pictionary

:lol9: I think the author clue might have confused me more -
I just got lucky with the search as far as the title goes, haven't read much Irving. Is that a wrestler? (Man, I love those bears!!) :rotfl:

Well, anyway, here's the next clue -

MOVIE TITLE

 Yes, Irving was a wrestler himself at Exeter and the University of Pittsburgh, and a coach later on; in many of his books, his characters are wrestlers too (best known of which is of course Garp).

Your picture reminds me of an anecdote I heard about Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery: apparently, when he was a kid, his mother would send out one of the others after him, saying "go see what Bernie is doing and tell him to stop it". Though whether that is a true anecdote and really about Monty I do not know, it seems something a lot of mothers could say...:).

Now to go and find an answer.....

edit:

Not so easy.... :)

First, I though that that was Hugh Grant, but the only title I can come up with for him is
- "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason",
and that's not really that close to the picture (besides, on second thought, it probably isn't Hugh Grant anyway...).

Then, I looked for the mother/son theme, opens up lots of possibilities:
- Mother and Son (1997)
- Conversations with Mother (2004)
- Surviving My Mother (2007)
- What My Mother Told Me (1995)

but those are really not that well known, so I don't think one of them is what you meant...

Finally, I decided it was his wife/girlfriend which led me to
- "Emily's Reasons Why Not" (2006)
- "10 Great Reasons" (2008) (no, that's TV)
- Reason Over Passion (1969)

but somehow I still don't think any of them is right, so I'll have to pass for the moment :)!

rbud57 04-16-2008 03:46 AM

Re: Pictionary

:lol9: No, it's not Hugh Grant, just some poor fellow I picked on because I loved his expression!

I can see now that I should probably have made the guy a little more the same size or age as the woman, or maybe her a little younger . . .?

Actually the number of reasons does figure in the answer - good for you for counting! :winky:

Re: Pictionary

My, he's a beefy one! :lol9:

And with that thought - venturing a guess - is it a "carrot juicer"?
(well, or just a "vegetable juicer"?)

Spoiler:
"Wiktionary" definition of "juicer" - (going with #3)

juicer (plural juicers)
1. A manual or electrical device for rendering the juice of fruits or vegetables.
2. A (citrus) reamer.
3. (slang) One who uses steroids.

If so, good one, croc!!

:rotfl:

crocodillan 04-16-2008 03:11 PM

Re: Pictionary

no it is not a juicer or vegetable juicer....hehe.
um, think of this one as a combination of two words maybe. it's a thing, but it's an actual product....
