Re: Pictionary Character portrayed. |
Re: Pictionary I've been searching for one of the Greek philosophers. Actually, I think it's either Socrates or Aristoteles. Plato was bold :silly: Not that there were only 3 Greek philosophers :bonk: But those are most portrayed in art... I think... Ok, here we go: The Death Of Socrates (1787) by Jacques Louis David I never noticed the lamp in it, but it's in the description :) And there I was... looking for something by Michelangelo... why do I always go for the wrong way first?! :rotfl: |
Re: Pictionary I think it is Socrates, but where does the lamp come into it? The Unburning ? seeing as the lamps not on !!!!! think thats a book though:doubt: |
Re: Pictionary You got both keywords now. Not important who he was, but what he was ;) |
Re: Pictionary Ah. Well, then it has to be the painting: A Philosopher by Lamp Light (1769) Josepf Wright Of Derby Figures, the lamp is more prominent in that one :lol9: |
Re: Pictionary Not the one I'm looking for...but you're getting closer. |
Re: Pictionary Bronze statuette of a philosopher on a lamp stand ??? |
Re: Pictionary Eum...no. SF was close with her painting, just not the artist I'm looking for. If you google both keywords it should be right in front of you. |
Re: Pictionary A Philosopher Lecturing on the Orrery - Joseph Wright of Derby I know that painting :arms: I just never thought of him as a philosopher, rather a lecturer and well - actually I thought Isaac Newton did the talking in that one :rotfl: Ow wait, same painter again - boy, he did do some paintings on philosophers and lamps! Searching on. Edit Here's one to share: Love is eternal -- the aspect may change, but not the essence There is the same difference in a person before and after he is in love as there is in an unlighted lamp and one that is burning. The lamp was there and was a good lamp, but now it is shedding light too, and that is its real function. And love makes one calmer about many things, and that way, one is more fit for one's work. - Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) Searching on again :silly: |
