"Focus" is of course "burning point" in Dutch, German and so on (brandpunt, Brennpunkt) but as the Latin word focus means "hearth, fireplace", there is also a connection in English, French (foyer) etc. ; hence the hint to think of the magnifier's "burning function" .
I don't think I would call myself a prog rocker, though I like quite a few of the bands that Wikipedia lists under progressive rock. I didn't really know that much about Focus, other than Thijs van Leer playing the flute, not that common in rockmusic... And I like Hocus Pocus
