Okay, I give.

Figured this out a couple of days ago, but was being a wuss about having to come up with a new clue. :embarasse

Is it (drum roll, please?) - "Cabaret" ?

(p.s., itSFMe is gone for the weekend, was a little too quiet, wasn't it?)

Re: Pictionary

:rotfl: I saw this and thought "that can't be it". But then again, why would RBud think it is? Does that movie even have a cab in it?

So I figured out one of the French words for "stop" that might be used to stop a car could be "arret" and well.... then I googled "arret" and "cab" and it wasn't until then, when I saw those two words standing there, that I figured it out :bonk:

Great found RBud  :cheer:

And wonderful pictionary Jimbo :arms: That is, please say this is right for it is just too good not to be it :rotfl:

There no longer is, because we changed the rules , but still, I think coming up with a drawing is 'better' than using photo's!
Please be careful about "making up the rules as you go along" The rules in the 1st post should be plenty enough and are there for a reason. It gets confusing if people continue to change or add on additional rules or how to play the game for those who join in late and don't read the entire thread. If you think something should be added to the 1st post please let us know and we can update that post.

Personally I like the original concept of the game-- a drawing is much better than using photos (as someone noted back about a thousand posts back.. using/copying photos is kind of cheating). Since photos has been used on a regular basis since 2007 and its the fault of the moderators for not keeping up with this thread since, photos are allowable but please put some creativity into it rather than just posting a picture- there are a number of other image threads for that.

Have fun!

Wow, what prompted that comment all of a sudden? That was an aside I made six months ago in june, referring to a discussion that had come up even before that, see e.g. this and following posts !

The point seems to be moot though: if you read through the thread, you will see that the general consensus seems to be that indeed the idea of the game is to create something new. Contrary to what you say, there is no question of people "just posting a picture", and allthough the original idea of Pictionary and of this thread is to draw things, that is sometimes difficult if you do not have access to more than a laptop and touchpad. Personally, I think people are doing a good job, even while using (parts of) photographs and images taken from the web.

However, if you feel it should be done to keep the thread within Nords standards, please do add something to the first post, amending the rules to include using photographic images, as long as the endresult is new/original art ;).

Re: Pictionary

Flicks in my two'penneth.
Having used computer drawn clues, scanned in hand sketches and photoshopped versions over time, I do think the most favourable ones are the well done computerised clues, but as time constraints apply, I adapt. I could have drawn up my last clue but went with the photoshopped version, I do think there is a some creative content in there, I didn't, after all, just hit google images and take a pic from the first page - Besides, it seems to have been well received.
I think the creativity of the clue and the giver is all part of the game, just as the twisting of the clue type itself, is it a scene which depicts the title or something which spells out the words?...
However, if, looking at my last two clues, this is seen as against the rules and "kind of cheating" I will not post any more of those.

It doesn't seem to be broke, I don't think it needs fixing :)

Re: Pictionary

If you'd read my post Hel- I did note that the moderators were behind on moderating this thread- therefore that is why I commented NOW on the idea of "well there's no reason why we (the players) can't change the rules" . I don't mind the photoshopped thing but that does kind of put off other players in that many of you are rather skilled at this stuff (compared to me and my stick figures I'm even intimidated lol).

The photoshopped pictures while quite a few are obvious, some may not be quite as obvious- at least to me at first glance. Maybe I'm just a tad on the old fashioned side with the meaning of "Pictionary" being "Draw it out" rather than copying & pasting several pictures together and putting some sort of twist on it. But hey as I said since it appears to have been going on since 2007 and even the originator of this game seem to not have said anything about it I guess it shall continue.
I only want to nake sure that any new comers do not get the idea that copying a picture is all that has to be done.

it does say in the original post this:

Quote:

Add: It has to be a picture you made yourself, for example in Paint:)

Add #2 (from Ariel): Might be a good idea to draw yourself a pic or two to have in hand (if you plan on playing regularly), in case you guess one correctly. It will make the game move a little faster.
Add #3 (from Ariel again): Include with your posted artwork the category of the item (movie, book, song, phrase, noun, etc)
However I can see how that first one can be taken.... LIBERALLY to include photoshop, GIMP etcetera. I think the original intent was to have people actually draw- just my view point however.

Thanks for your input both of you. Since this is supposed to be a game thread ;), please do not reply.

Re: Pictionary

Before this decends into who said what said when, could I courteously remind all concerned that this is a long running thread on nord and has had people intriuged and drawn in (haha drawn... geddit?) for a long time, it's what got me posting (I can hear the groans now :P) and the main thing is fun/using ya brain.
As rbud was reticent about guessing because of lack of postable clue, I post this... not to tread on toes, and I'll withdraw immediately should she mind (I've PMed to explain :))
Just to get us back to what we like...

And yes, I did draw it :P
