Re: Pictionary

That's the translation literally yes Scouser. But I don't know if you actually had a game like that on TV as we did in Holland and if so what it was called.
Of course, like Hel said, Wiki maybe could tell, but I'm too darn tired.
Gonna call it quits and get an early night's sleep. night, night

Re: Pictionary

I don't ever remember this kind of program on UK television:no: Good night celli.

Helanren 11-03-2009 06:16 AM

Re: Pictionary

The original was an American show which was on in various formats in every decade from the 1950s until a few years ago; same thing for the German version. I found references on the web for a similar show in Britain with 6 contestants, but I do not know if that has the same "format" that is important for this pictionary.

Re: Pictionary

Is it the kind of show where one is telling the truth and a panel have to decide which one ?

Helanren 11-03-2009 07:38 AM

Re: Pictionary

Yes. There are some catchphrases too...

Scouser 11-03-2009 09:18 AM

Re: Pictionary

Finding lots of book titles "Tell The Truth", "Stand up and Tell the Truth," but no reference to love and smiles (happiness in hebrew) !!! This is a long shot, has it got anything to do with David Icke ????? or the bible ?

Helanren 11-03-2009 10:05 AM

Re: Pictionary

No, nothing to do with David Icke, and only indirectly with the bible, like all the authors works ;). Happy(ness) in Hebrew is correct, but you need to use that more literally.
Maybe this version will help?

Scouser 11-03-2009 10:57 AM

Re: Pictionary

"Love And Joy: Law, Language, And Religion In Ancient Israel" - Yochanan Muffs ? but no reference to telling the truth !

Helanren 11-03-2009 11:30 AM

Re: Pictionary

No, it's fiction and by a quite well known author.
Spoiler:
Note: "Wie van de drie' and "To tell the truth" have a few things in common, but not the word "truth" ;). If you've seen the show it should be quite obvious, but even if not, you can find what I mean in the show's description.

Scouser 11-03-2009 11:35 AM

Re: Pictionary

Something to do with "Will the real ?????? stand up"?:doubt:

Helanren 11-03-2009 11:38 AM

Re: Pictionary

50% chance, and that was the wrong one !

[edit] Here's the British version, by the way ;).

I'm just going round in circles:insane2:

itSFMe 11-03-2009 02:05 PM

Re: Pictionary

:doubt: I have to say I'm quite stunned too :nodder:

 Not sure how you can take "happy(ness)" more literally  Maybe it should rather be smiling or smiley?
The second word is the letters kaph+lamed, pronounced "kol" which I find to mean "all, the whole" - but I think I mistranslate that, my Hebrew is quite nonexistent  It's not Ahava (love), but maybe it's the word "leb" (heart) :doubt: :dizzy: I think I'll wait till Dor can shed some light on all this :rotfl:

Edit As for the 50% chance... maybe it isn't truth and "real" which is important for the book, but rather the lying and "imposter" side of the game?

Helanren 11-03-2009 03:13 PM

What I meant was "Happy(ness) in Hebrew" more literally ;).
You're close with the second one, but I suppose there are always some variations in transcribing words.

Go back to the game first, and look at my second version of the pic...

In that case, I think it is something like Ahava+Leb. I found another translation for heart, where it isn't leb but Lev  I guess it is a "sounds like" ;)

A Have Live

Is all I can make from it, and that doesn't really make sense :lol9: Maybe it's "Have a Life" I'll search on ;)

As for the game: 3 guys saying the same thing, which in the Dutch version would mean they would all say their (assumed) name :doubt: Not sure what to do with that  They might say "My name is...." .

I played a bit with that, taking that the jewish names gil(ah) means joy/happiness, but it is written quite differently than in the pictionary so I think I'm a bit on a wrong track there.

celli 11-03-2009 08:47 PM

Re: Pictionary

Even if you are on the wrong track, I think you deserve to win this one because of all the effort you have brought into finding those words, iTS :hmmmthumb
I am getting absolutely nowhere with this one.

Helanren 11-04-2009 01:03 AM

Re: Pictionary

The title has 5 words, and SF has found four of them already: 1, 2, 3 and 5, so yes, I guess she deserves to win :). The book is written by a quite well known Jewish American author and rabbi.

I would have thought the "wie van de drie/tell the truth" clue would have been enough, but then he is one of my favourites so half a title would have been enough for me (but not, obviously, for everybody, though it should be enough for a "book" search :lol9:)....
The Hebrew clues were more of an extra, but, as SF did, you could find "heart' with a bit of work. The other word is harder to translate, but usually given as happy/blessed, at least from what I have found.

Re: Pictionary

Found it! :arms:

My Name Is Asher Lev - Chaim Potok

I read it in high school  :wall:

Edit Here's the new pictionary A SONG of course

Helanren 11-04-2009 09:13 PM

Re: Pictionary

That was it !

Of course, both Wie van de drie, To Tell The Truth and even the UK version I found later, see earlier clip, always started with "My name is...my name is...my name is...". That and the finish "Will the real .... now rise" are the associations I have with the game ;).
Asher and Lev were included so you check if you perhaps had found another "My name is.." title.

Every book by Chaim Potok is well worth reading by the way.

Your well deserved turn next :jossun:

Parallel Lines by Blondie or Joss Stone comes to mind, but no reference to the g.....

Re: Pictionary

Nice and elegant pictionary ;).

I have two:

First, as an intermezzo and to celebrate an upcoming jubilee:

television

For Dutch language speakers only really (though long time pictionary players and lurkers might recognize it as well :)), so bonus points only for the above.

Then, for everybody, not just a song but a whole (-/- two tracks ;))

album

Album name and artist please ;).

I'm going for the Bonus points.

Two more bonus points on offer for the other two songs ;)

Errrrm are these the new rules now:thinking: !!!! posting two pictionaries ? Not getting into this one because I'm not in agreement with posting more than one at a time, it will end up going from 2 to 3 and so on.

Helanren 11-05-2009 04:09 PM

Re: Pictionary

Aw Scouser, lighten up ;). The album is the real pictionary, the other one is just a little joke because of Kinderen voor Kinderen's jubilee and the fun that we had here in april with it (see post #3655 and following).

Re: Pictionary

HelanRen, I bet the other Kinderen voor Kinderen song is "Hellup, ik krijg tieten!" - almost all my (male) friends know that song by heart :icon_roll :bonk:

As for the album (and thus the REAL pictionary)... :doubt:  Something with drinking (doing shots) and 5 o'clock ;)

Haha, I didn't know the song (I suppose it is one of the newer ones), but I remember you mentioning it (and your friends!) before, so I had to include it...besides, Elize was one of the guests at DWDD yesterday, where they discussed the special show next saturday.

Each item stands for one song on the album; the album title is the same as one of the songs.

No correct guesses yet though ;)

vivi 11-08-2009 03:12 AM

Re: Pictionary

still trying to get somewhere with this- being looking at "the morning after the night before"- but no other tracks match :(

Helanren 11-08-2009 03:24 AM

Re: Pictionary

Now that the Kinderen voor Kinderen 30 year jubilee broadcast is over, it's time for the 'real' pic again !

"the morning after the night before" is a very well known feeling caused by what's drunk during "one of the songs" ;).

Hint: This album is actually the first one I looked up while searching for SF's previous pictionary....

I've been having this pictionary in the back of my head for quite a while, but I can't even think of albums to guess :lol9:

Don't think I've forgotten about it though ;) Or given up!

I think the left picture is Leonardo as a baby or something and the girl as sleeping beauty while they play Romeo and Juliet in the movie :dizzy: No idea what songtitle to make of that :bonk:
Upper left I still only think of shots and 5 o'clock :banghead:
Maybe something like "light a light" for the candle one...

Helanren 11-10-2009 04:47 PM

Re: Pictionary

You are a lot further than you know ;)

- one songtitle identified...
- Romeo as baby is correct, but Juliet is not sleeping...
- maybe they are shotglasses, but there is no alcohol in them...
- thinking in another 'time scale' should almost guarantee you to find the answer..

A slightly altered version may help:

Or, you might focus on the similarities between your pic and mine, rather than the differences ;)

itSFMe 11-11-2009 11:12 AM

Re: Pictionary

- one songtitle identified... :cheer: I bet it's the light!
- Romeo as baby is correct, but Juliet is not sleeping... Spinning? Or singing? :doubt: I'm pretty sure it was Romeo singing in the Dire Straits song
- maybe they are shotglasses, but there is no alcohol in them... Just alcohol with a colour
- thinking in another 'time scale' should almost guarantee you to find the answer.. 17h it is! Not that it rings a bell for a song, but that's why we have google ;) Though of course it can be the song "17" or "17 forever" ...

Or, you might focus on the similarities between your pic and mine, rather than the differences ;) are there similarities? Do I have to think scientifically to solve this one?

I found an album :arms: And now it all makes sense :cheer:

Between the Lines - Janis Ian
+ When the Party is over all the bottles on the table
+ At 17 5 o'clock
+ Lover's Lullaby (Romeo and Juliet)
+ In the Winter Winter scene
+ Light a Light the Candle
+ From Me To You The bear
+ The Come On The pamflet
+ Water colors The coloured shots
