The first thing that came to mind was ''Funeral Blues'' by W.H.Auden, one of the few poems I DO know and very much like.

Thanks Hel for your explanation, I was looking for much more than there actually was then.

me too- the old guy in the hat was it then!!
amazed that you haven't got mine yet- it doesn't need an its or scouser-but please read it when you get it! he's too talented to be ignored

Honey I have no idea who those two people in the picture are, or is that not importan? But surely it is.
All I see is that there is no South

Re: Pictionary

I only recognized one of them, but that made it a lot easier to search for the second....;); the southern E is just a typo I assume.

the missing south is a mistake- but in some ways makes it easier- they are both well known if you are not so easily impressed

Well that's just great!!! There goes the only thing I thought was a clue and it's a typo. No more Barolo for you missy :cool2:

And not being able to recognize even one makes it a hellufalot harder to find the other :icon_roll

you can take the barolo out of the equation, but not out of the girl- and a nice little south has appeared!!
edit:and disapppeared to make it a little easier! go and see!

East West Home Best (oost west thuis best)???
Heck I don't know anymore, you're making me dizzy with the changing of the directions :dizzy:
I'm off to bed  Let mr.Hel give the answer, he already knows, or wait for iTS or Scouser, but I'm just too dumb for this.

Re: Pictionary

Fine, just write me completely out of this, huh?

Don't you know I'm originally a Missouri girl? I know the most famous resident of Hannibal, Missouri when I see him! And his poems are great, as are his books - now all I have to do is figure out which one, hmmm....

(oh, and that's shania twain, I think - my hubby would know for sure, imagine that!) :lol9:

edit: Oh, now I think I get it, it's not Twain's poetry, is it "The Ballad of East and West" by Rudyard Kipling?

(famous line: "Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet...")

:embarasse I would never do that Rbud, it's just that Hel said he knew the answer and Vivi and he mentioned iTS and Scouser in there posts about this pict.
Heck, I should be the one to be written out if this as I know practically nothing about poetry.
So  to you for finding it (and to your hubby for identifying Shania Twain  )
Nice photo Vexhold :)

Scouser 10-18-2009 02:19 PM

Re: Pictionary

Yep looks like rbud may have cracked it:nod: (seen my name bandied about a few times) but all I knew was Shania, wouldn't have known the fella, I do now rbud has named him.......

vivi 10-18-2009 04:45 PM

Re: Pictionary

it is shania and mark, but it's not kipling- he wrote "Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet..." - but these two are meeting!

Scouser 10-18-2009 04:53 PM

Re: Pictionary

So rbud isn't correct in her guess?

Aaaah....then we'll have to continue our search, I was sure it was The Ballad of East and West as well ! (and for the record: I recognized Mark, not Shania....;))

vivi 10-18-2009 05:11 PM

Re: Pictionary

sorry rbud, but you are really near! and the poet is english!

Is it..... East Meets West - Ralph Waldo Emerson?

Edit - nope, just noticed he's American:thinking:

Re: Pictionary

As it isn't Kipling, I would say it is Hardy :)

The Convergence of the Twain - Thomas Hardy

But then again, I would have expected some reference to the Titanic :doubt:

In a solitude of the sea
Deep from human vanity,
And the Pride of Life that planned her, still couches she

Re: Pictionary

it is the convergence of the twain!! and had i put a titanic in it you would all have got it immediately- as it is, if you google "twain poem", the convergence of the twain is the first hit!

well done its- you're up!:winnerthu

should be stilly couches she- he was always making up new words- vainglorious is another of his

itSFMe 10-18-2009 07:46 PM

Re: Pictionary

Stilly... I'll try to remember it :)

And I guess I thought Kipling for the West and East ;) Convergence is something we had at physics - we needed it to understand how the eye works... I wouldn't have thought about taking east and west to make that clear :arms: Great find, and you had me confused  It is just after I read that it wasn't that poem that I heard another bell ringing in my head - luckely I know Hardy's poem quite well  Except for the stilly :bonk:

Here we go with a SONG again ;) Just hold on till I've drawn it!

Edit Ok, here it is... I have one ready with additional clues - as it might not be as forward as it seems... The yellow square tries to give a clue for the singer. The light blue for the title of the song.

rbud57 10-18-2009 07:55 PM

Re: Pictionary

Whew, got out of making one, then - but glad to have pointed out the Twains.

Nice work, itSFMe! :winnerthu

Re: Pictionary

Are those two Daedalus and Icarus? No idea about the singer though... there are a lot of songs about Icarus, if it is him of course
Maybe Ani Di Franco - Icarus?

Helanren 10-18-2009 09:31 PM

Re: Pictionary

From The Convergence Of The Twain:

"The sea-worm crawls--grotesque, slimed, dumb, indifferent."

From The Rime of the Ancient Mariner:

"Yea, slimy things did crawl with legs
Upon the slimy sea.
"

But back from slimy sea creatures to burning sky creatures ;).

For the song: Icarus, falling angels, burning angels....
Burning Angel by Arch Enemy or by In Strict Confidence; plenty of Icarus songs....

For the group: oxygen to ...? A methyl carbocation(?) - not exactly a name to conquer the hitlists with

Thinking on !

Ooops I thought it was blood on the wings not fire !
There's a song title "Wings Of Fire" but too many artists and can't find one relating to the band clue.

Iron Maiden - Flight of Icarus

itSFMe 10-19-2009 10:39 AM

Re: Pictionary

OK, Deadalus and Icarus are recognized :arms: I have to stress though, that their names aren't in the song at all  It is rather what happens... or not even that :dizzy: :whistling .

As for the name of the singer: you don't need to figure out what that molecule is. I don't think it is an existing molecule. You just need a general name for what you see
Spoiler:
It is not a molecule which will exist long on its own...

David Usher, Mutton Birds, New Model Army !!!!

Re: Pictionary

HelanRen cracked it!

This would have been my "better" clue... And yes Scouser, that is a good guess but not it ;)

Over to you HelanRen!

Helanren 10-19-2009 11:33 PM

Re: Pictionary

Haha, when you said "it will not exist long on its own" I was searching for a group called "Radicals", while preparing a comment about using a dot rather than a +.... then with your other comment "it is rather what happens" I found the title but still didn't make the connection Ion-Ian for a while.....

Another song
