Not the Future I found this riddle on reddit, it has a quite interesting atmosphere compared to the usual riddle and it has some reoccuring themes such as war and human primates
The creator made it because he thought that riddles like Notpron were too hard.

Continuum Hey, has anyone tried this one? CONTINUUM
I am running out of continents...
It is not Antarctica, I would think. That leaves North America and Australia, both do not seems right for the style. Is it one of them?
Also I ran out of ideas of what it used to be before becoming a hotel. It is too grand to be an ordinary building...
The pics look quite different; are there even more architectural styles in this place? Must be a complex building - pearla's 'monastery' sonds good - either that or a castle/palace (nowadays they're turned into museums or hotels of course). In any case, looking at those plants in the atrium, we got a warm clime there, so South America sounds good too. But I'd prefer North America, thinking of Florida (Conch Republic ) or other sunny states where we see more millionaires who're able and willing to pay such hotel bills...

Except that sparky said it wasn't . Or are we splitting hairs, and it's a cloister/abbey/nunnery/priory rather than a monastery? Or any other 'religious building'?
... splitting hairs ... No, left my browser open on the previous page when I had to go to the kitchen get some broccoli jam sandwiches. 20 min later, I just forgot to refresh before posting, so I didn't read sparky's info.
Anyway, not a religious building - I think it's been devised for tourists from the beginning - pic 1 looks so 'cozy hotel bar'...
The "historic" building could have previously been a bank, an estate/mansion, embassy, private school. I have checked those already with no success
Also, North America includes Mexico...

Ladies and Gentlemen, you made progress while I slept. And Bolaf, I hope you enjoyed the broccoli jam sandwich.
I am in California (yay, Hel!) The building has nothing to do with religion, as you have concluded. Estate/mansion is as close as you've come but not quite right. I should say the place is indeed most famous for its people, but its historical importance does also relate to the building itself.
