Are they very old (part of a Roman fort etc) or relatively new (tankwall in Normandy e.g.)?

I had the same question and was glad you asked it, Hel! Meantime, I've gone ahead on the assumption we are looking at some old Roman tactic. But haven't found anything. Yet. Vivi, are you in Britain?

Rotted Roman Wood made more sense (why would you dig out big blocks of concrete ?), but they looked just like a row of dragon's teeth.

I already checked Hadrian's wall without success, should I keep looking there (you've visited that before )?

I keep thinking stakes in the ground to form a barricade or derail chariots or launch something like a catapult but not getting very far yet. A palisade makes no sense because that would be linear. Of course, multitasking is keeping me marginally attentive. (And I keep remembering that if we identify what the holes are for, we'll still have to know where they are!)

Looks like the Antonine Wall at Rough Castle. That would be near Falkirk, Scotland.
