The creator made it because he thought that riddles like Notpron were too hard.

It looks very zen-like, and that leads me to Japan, but that is probably way too obvious and, therefore, incorrect. Trees could be redbud, Japanese magnolia, or a host of others. They both grow everywhere though I think, so that wouldn't be much help identifying...
