Re: Cryptomania

 Yes, I just numbered the letters, but I padded the first nine with zeroes to get two digit numbers all the way ;)

OK, next one. Probably nothing to do with keyboards, in 44 BC. Maybe, as he twittered rather than tweeted, something to do with sound. Hmm, Morse perhaps ?

No sound - and you're right, no keyboard typing in ancient Rome. He was just manually writing down a piece of his wisdom...

Re: Cryptomania

Berlusconi and twitter are clues? Already tried using them as keys (not exhaustively, thought, just a couple of tries)

Re: Cryptomania

... clues?
Well, 'Berlusconi back in 44 BC' is. Twitter is not.

... keys ...
No key here. It's a single (& simple) substitution, just as Hel's last puzzle.

Side note: Of course our time shifted Berlusconi would have written those numbers as Roman numerals (II XX XIII VII ... etc.), but for your convenience - saves you one translation :) - I served them in decimal right away.

Re: Cryptomania

I thought it might be a sort of one pad code, using "What Berlusconi would've twittered, had he been a senator back in 44 BC" as the text .
Haven't succeeded yet...

Also tried taking 2nd, 20th, 13th letter of that text

And my own previous code using an Italian QZERTY keyboard

Re: Cryptomania

Berlusconi back in 44BC would have written in Latin... that's all I can make of the hint :frown:

Re: Cryptomania

Knowing him, he'd probably tweet "Forza SPQR" at any occasion

No fancy algorithms involved. Come to think of it, I wouldn't even call it actual encryption (I mean, we're talking Berlusconi, what do we expect ). Indeed, all you need to know - and you do - is where and when he writes this message.

... Italian QZERTY keyboard ...
It's way too early for such sophisticated hardware.

... would have written in Latin ...
His message is in English...
... but you're thinking in the right direction, Bruja.

Re: Cryptomania

Am I??? ....I also checked the latin alphabet in the classical period, but it only had 23 letters and we can see numbers from 1 to 24 in the message *sigh*

Re: Cryptomania

where: in the Senate (or just outside of it)?

[edit] no, the Theatre of Pompey
