Re: Cryptomania Just tonal (3 8 1 4 7 5 0) then? Makes DIBEHFA/CHADGEZ :dizzy: |
Re: Cryptomania Nope. Hint: What you need is key. ;) |
Re: Cryptomania Major or minor? :silly: |
Re: Cryptomania Funny. Another hint: counting is needed |
Re: Cryptomania I already counted the sharp/flat notes... #: 2 5 5 4 3 1 3 b: 1 2 2 1 0 4 0 ... but that wasn't enlightening. |
Re: Cryptomania |
Re: Cryptomania Not in my country... |
Re: Cryptomania I wasn't aware of that. Here's the Lyrics |
Re: Cryptomania Something to do with the melody (6th D, 6th B, 5th B, etc...)? - but F wouldn't fit :doubt: |
Re: Cryptomania Nope. 88 is all you need. |
Re: Cryptomania a piano has 88 keys |
Re: Cryptomania  Count :) |
Re: Cryptomania so we have 78,87,75,80,85,81,73 |
Re: Cryptomania I've got 42 51 39 44 49 45 37. Anyway, Caesar-shifting around revealed only FOCHMIA and LUINSOG as halfways proper (but useless) words... [edit] Or atbashed: JAMHCGO ??? |
Re: Cryptomania :frown: Those numbers aren't right. But Vivi's are very close. How did you get those numbers? |
Re: Cryptomania ... how did you get ... Enumerated keyboard keys, starting with 1=A2. Ok, white keys only: 25 30 23 26 29 27 22 (-> CHADGEZ or GLEHKID) |
Re: Cryptomania  Spoiler: |
Re: Cryptomania If I interpret D6 as d^6, I get the exact same numbers as vivi - the sequence I've shown is basically off (lower) by 3 octaves = 36. Now, in which way are those 'very close'? Aren't their relative differences correct? I suppose the black keys are to be taken into account, right? [edit] Using A0 as the first key, we get D6 - 66 - B B6 - 75 - K B5 - 63 - ? E6 - 68 - D A6 - 73 - I F6 - 69 - E A5 - 61 - = with "BK?DIE=" when used as ASCII. |
Re: Cryptomania Right numbers :jossun: Not Decimal to ASCII but very close. What does the original code remind you of? |
Re: Cryptomania Hex to ASCII makes 'fuchsia'. |
Re: Cryptomania :winnerthu I didn't think it'd be hard. |

Re: Cryptomania Reminds me of rail fence a bit. |
Re: Cryptomania or ebcdic |
Re: Cryptomania There's CLLI code pronounced as siily |
Re: Cryptomania 2 Attachment(s) ... rail fence ... ... ebcdic ... ... CLLI ... Are you asking me? Did you actually try them? (Just one step. Children can do it; don't overthink.) Spoiler: |
Re: Cryptomania Spoiler: Children can do it you say. Either it's simple, or a hint to the cipher i.e. playfair. Guess we need a hint |
Re: Cryptomania Nah, it's literally simple, really. Follow your very first impression, that was a promising direction (and the direction never changes). |
Re: Cryptomania So it was railfence? Hm 25*11=275 Are the slashes the rails and the underscores nulls? 3 Rails could work. |
Re: Cryptomania It's close to rail fence, for we must think diagonal... ;) All 275 chars are payload; the slashes are line breaks, the underscores are blanks. |
Re: Cryptomania Does the diagonal go both ways? Or do I need to break the lines? I think I got parts of it. First part: An uninspirstical code proved poinor a text I think either I need to change directions or break up the text |
Re: Cryptomania "An uninspir" is the correct start. Like I said before: the direction never changes. So the question is: where to continue when we're at a border. Thought of wrapping around? Man, I'm pretty much giving it away now  |
Re: Cryptomania Not really  Spoiler: Then it would be An uninspired? I keep finding bits and parts of it, and can figure out missing letters on where the words are cut off. But wrapping it around? Snakelike doesn't really look right. |
Re: Cryptomania 1 Attachment(s) "uninspired" (quite the situation here ) would be correct... Ok, a very last hint: Attachment 85189 |
Re: Cryptomania 1 Attachment(s) I now get the wrap ;) Attachment 85194 an uninspired riddler on nord / was weary and terribly bored / his every thought / proved pointless and nought / and all of his plans fell far short / no cipher came up in his mind / no mystical code he could find / but then he reclined / left ciphers behind / and went for a text intertwined / :rotfl: |
Re: Cryptomania Bravo, that was hard work for both of us... :jossun: |
Re: Cryptomania 1 Attachment(s) |
Re: Cryptomania Spoiler: Most of all I wonder how you typed that 'ä' on your Canadian keyboard (or did you just copy/paste it from the tool you used?) Our month appears to be August, which might be a key - or the number 8 is involved... |
Re: Cryptomania Alt code  August  That's one part, but not needed yet. Focus on the other clue. Irony, you already mentioned the theme ;) |
Re: Cryptomania ... Focus on the other clue ... You mean "Nought rhymes with short?" was a clue? ... Irony ... That wasn't irony. The red text was broken quickly, but I still can't connect August. Btw, the solution is a single word? |
Re: Cryptomania The other clue on the calendar. Irony refers to your previous comment. A single word  but only after you decipher the text You broke the red text already? Care to explain? By the way, its a 2 step code. |
