Ah, I see Bolaf is one step closer now, but we still need the final answer....

After reading the wiki page I still haven't the faintest clue what a contract in bridge might be. Something to do with bidding? Hmmm... ok, let's wildly guess '4 of clubs' (whatever that means).

Re: Cryptomania

Spoiler:
That contract would actually be called "4 clubs", not "4 of clubs" ;).

A contract is the number of 'winning' tricks you expect to reach with a certain suit as trump. There are 13 tricks in each deal, so a bid of '1H' would mean you and your partner together have to get at least 7/13 of them, with hearts as the trump cards; 4C would mean you expect/need 10 tricks with clubs as trumps to avoid 'going down'.
You get points for the contract and for each additional trick you make. Certain contracts give additional points: e.g. if you make 9 tricks in hearts it doesn't really matter if you bid 1H, 2H or 3H (and made it with 2, 1 resp 0 'overtricks'), but if you make 10 tricks there is a big difference if your bid was 4H or if it was 3H +1; the same goes for slam (6H) and grand slam (7H, all tricks in the game).

While the card distribution above the line 'makes sense', you don't really need to know the rules of bridge to figure it out, it's all in the code (see my earlier edit). And in fact, you don't even need to find the 'exact' contract, just the type ;).

Ok, deciphering merely the code's major suit cards, we get NOTRUMP.

 :confused3  :frown: :depressed ...I think I hate you a bit

I googled "quintessence of womanhood" in search for inspiration and found ZETA PHI BETA sorority as the first hit... does it have anything to do with your encryption?

Re: Cryptomania

The quintessence of manhood is of course the Y chromosome, but women have no such distinguishing feature...

Only 0-4 in the code

Re: Cryptomania

I already tried making pairs of numbers and converting from base 5 to decimal... of course it has nothing to do with womanhood... and of course it didn't work

No sorority involved, but you already found that we have...

... which indeed is the (quint=5)essential step here.
