Re: Cryptomania no no. What does PM stand for? Prime Minister. Do the M part. |
Re: Cryptomania Before we go to the "Minister part"... what list are we talking about? If we count only the individual people (not taking into account how many times they were PM) there are only 22 of them... and there should be a "23:06", so this is not the right list If we count the PMs (not taking into account how many of them were the same person) there are 28, so far so good, but then the 11th isn't Bennet (as you confirmed), but Meighen... so this is not the right list. ...That only leaves the option of finding the list that has more than 22 PMs, but leaving Bennet as the 11th one, and with a exception that changes the numbering... I've already visited several sites, but nobody talks about an exception in the order of the PMs |

Re: Cryptomania I notice that my codes are too hard. So far, I've had to simplify my codes twice. When will I ever learn? ;) REVISED CODE ----------------------- 4:04 12:03 21:02 24:08 1:05 5:08 20:05 18:04 15:02 11:01 8:02 6:05 10:05 19:01 2:01 Spoiler: |
Re: Cryptomania 1 Attachment(s) It's not a question of hard codes.... if that were the case Hel and me would probably have quit a long time ago (Bolaf can be really mean, you know... but don\'t tell him Attachment 79221). The problem is the lack of hints.... if I had an idea about what to do with the string of letter I could work on the strings I already have (the previous ones and the new ones I've just made with the new numbers), and check which one is the right one. As I said, I have several strings, depending on the different numbers the sites give the PMs, and depending on whether I took their full names or the abbreviated ones... but as I still don't understand the "take the Minister part" I can't go on. Bolaf can make his own scripts and check lots of cipher methods at the same time.... I'm not so sophisticated, I use pencil and paper, so -unless someone comes with an idea about how to proceed- the only thing I can do is to wait patiently for someone to solve it :frown: |
Re: Cryptomania It guess it's still the wiki list, with the unfortunate modification that we have to count them ourselves, in stead of making use of the kindly provided numbers of the first column (as you have a 24:08 now, and there are only 22 different PMs) :)? Or can we use the #column - with Borden both 9th and 10th? [edit] ah, the # column is headed "min." - for minister? [edit2] In that case: using full name: nlolamrnbaierla using last name: onlyonefemalepm -> which suggests the answer must be only one female PM |

Re: Cryptomania you sure? The original answer was in code, to be decrypted as SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE. *BUT I thought itd be too difficult (Borden was 9th and 10th ministry, so tech. the 9th prime minister, then Meighen would be 10th prime minister, even though its the 11th ministry.) Guess i must have used ministry (whoops) |
Re: Cryptomania 1 Attachment(s) Using last name.... using last name.... Attachment 79223 how can I be so stupid?????? Hel, please post an easy one.... I want to write the -now extended- "Lives and adventures of Bolaf, Hel, Link and Bruja" And link, don't pay attention to my complaints, it's just that my two neurons are not always awake at the same time  |
Re: Cryptomania Bruja (it was full name *old version* switched to last name for newer one) My fault not yours |

Re: Cryptomania Flags.... *off to google* |
Re: Cryptomania i know its maritime flags but some don't translate right. (the blue and yellow one) |
Re: Cryptomania Not sure what you mean by 'not right' here :)? |
Re: Cryptomania The flags are ok (Marryat), but the interpretation... |
Re: Cryptomania As in, theres no yellow/blue checkered flag. Ahh just saw Bolaf's edit. Strange i didnt see that version. |

Re: Cryptomania  well of course not. I get the idea. We need the book Theres no 9711 Got part of it decoded. WISH YOU (9711) HAPPY FAMILY NEXT YEAR AMSTERDAM |
Re: Cryptomania |
Re: Cryptomania nice  |
Re: Cryptomania It's apparently well worth reading, but it probably won't help you right now ;) |
Re: Cryptomania I have decoded almost all of it, except one part. WISH YOU (9711) HAPPY FAMILY NEXT YEAR AMSTERDAM Is it deliberate that number was split? |
Re: Cryptomania Almost there indeed - 2 (or 3) things missing ;) |
Re: Cryptomania there is no 11 in the telegraph. I WISH YOU, ACCURATELY, A HAPPY FAMILY. NEXT YEAR AMSTERDAM. |
Re: Cryptomania And unless I made an error, there's no 11in the crypto either (nor a 9711 ;)) |
Re: Cryptomania because its 9 71 1  See above. |
Re: Cryptomania Not sure where you got the 'accurately' from, but I think I'll give it to you after that last edit :): I WISH YOU A HAPPY (family) NEXT YEAR FROM AMSTERDAM Spoiler: |
Re: Cryptomania link: Beware of my next crypto. hel: Is it easy? link: That question i won't answer. Let's add another chapter to this story. hel: Yes, please! 31 64 4d 68 4d 66 65 |
Re: Cryptomania I hope we don't have to read dozens of old (scanned) telegraph code books and tables... :dizzy: |
Re: Cryptomania you do have to read a scanned book. But nothing to do with telegraph. Something different. |
Re: Cryptomania So you've added chapter forty-two? |
Re: Cryptomania A hint for the two-neuroned people, please? |
Re: Cryptomania 42? Don't you mean 24? That's the specific chapter you have to read. :) Hint: Pay attention to the text before the code. Pretty simple actually :) |
Re: Cryptomania ... Don't you mean 24? Nope. That book has 41 chapters, and you said you're about to add another chapter. No idea where this 24 comes from. OMG, I'm reading and reading... and possibly a totally different book! Just to clarify, my chapter 24 is about a devilish play, yours too? And before I forget: your code is hex and means decimal 49 100 77 104 77 102 101? |
Re: Cryptomania Right with the hex. Not Decimal. (Or convert dec. to something else. Either way ;) ) Make sure you have the right book. If you don't, then you wont find the answer. (There's no chapter 42. Decode the hint) |
Re: Cryptomania Hex to text gives "1dMhMfe" :doubt:? Or worse, hex to Base64, "MWRNaE1mZQ=="..... No idea about the hint yet..... |
Re: Cryptomania ... Not Decimal ... They're combined coordinates such as 'nth word, mth letter'? ... have the right book ... you wont find the answer ... decode the hint ... Then your 'hint' isn't a hint, but a key (thus part of the puzzle). So the 1st step is to decipher the letters 'ksvlnsirt', and the 2nd step is using the hex code (on chapter 24). Right? And the actual hint is in the intro? Something to do with the words 'beware', 'easy' or 'add'? Interpreting the letters as a cryptogrammed book title, starting with 'The', gave interesting results (The Jihads, The Mohawk, The Schizo, The Sphinx, The Unholy), but none of them rang any bells nor made up real books either. |

Re: Cryptomania ... "1dMhMfe" ... ... will lead you to the right book ... Both, the hex and the 'klisnrvst'-letters, lead to the right book? ... text above ... notice something? Yes, was wondering about missing line breaks and the lowercase names. I would have written it like so: Spoiler: ... Look down ... On a screen area? On my keyboard? Under my desk? To my feet? To the ground? |
Re: Cryptomania Summary: Pay close attention to the text. Some parts of it stands out. (lowercase names were deliberate) 1dMhfe leads to the right book. (Remember: it's a scanned book.) To decode the hint: yes, keyboard. The hint tells you which part of the book to read. |
