I had already realized 145 = 5*29 ... but then, instead of going on with the "most simple, most logical" reasoning, I tried the weirdest things (in other words: instead of Occam's razor I used a dessert spoon )

I know Hel knows it's his turn. I also thought about a sweet, gentle nudge... or just posting something easy -just for fun- to give him more time... but then I didn't think/plan/make anything...

Re: Cryptomania

Sorry about that ;). I didn't know/remember it was my turn.... but then you've come up with better interim puzzles than I could anyway :)
Spoiler:
nudge 1: with groups of 5, I get

7 9 22 5 0 8 5 12 0 1 0 3 15 14 19 9 4 5 18 1 2 12 5 0 14 21 4 7 5
or (assuming a 0-25 alphabet)
H J W F A I F M A B A D P O T J E F S B C M F A O V E H F
....?

[edit] OK, simple Caesar shift added ;):
G I V E Z H E L Z A Z C O N S I D E R A B L E Z N U D G E

(which of course I would have gotten straight away if I hadn't remembered Bolaf's fondness for A=0 and used a 1-26 alphabet )

nudge 2: I found the Rongorongo characters, but how does the second glyph (44) stand for an R? or is that just a filleR because no glyph 18 is shown in the table?

New crypto:

- 19 words?
- or numbers + letters: => 'different' solve for each word ?
- lots of A, B, II
- 6 and 18 are the same

Bolaf 11-24-2013 04:52 AM

Re: Cryptomania

As of nudge 2: Just a modulo thing (44 - 26 = 18)

[EDIT]
New crypto: me thinks it's Hel's turn. Yep, me too
Spoiler:
nth letter of the saying (e.g. MHWTSS = "Make Hay While the Sun Shines", NITMOI = "Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention", BSTS = "Better Safe Than Sorry", ... , TISTF = "Truth is stranger than fiction")

Some of those acronyms were really hard to solve, that's true.

Here's a couple that I still remember:
THABTO = Two Heads Are Better Than One
AFINIAFI = A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed
AWANPMJADB = All Work And No Play Makes John A Dull Boy
HWHIL = He Who Hesitates Is Lost
ARSGNM = A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss
BIITEOTB = Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
HITBP = Honesty Is the Best Policy
PIBTC = Prevention Is Better Than Cure
ABPATU = A Bad Penny Always Turns Up

Already had an inspiration, Hel?
I think I could come up with another intermediate one... :silly:

OK, here's my answer..... ;)

In the manifold biogenetic examples (those things like a branched tree, an uncurling fern, the arrangement of a pinecone, the fruits of a pineapple, the flowering of artichokes) but also in many works of art (Sanskrit poetry, the Aeneid by Virgil) we can recognize these amazing patterns of gold.

(Bolaf, If you want to follow the path -nowadays it's quite a nice road- go east about 2 Km, but I haven't done that in the last 20 years or so)

Re: Cryptomania

... go east ...
Aah, I was going west (towards Madrid) first, wondering when the next housing would appear. Now, east is the more promising direction... at least after 2 km I found signs of colonization (Albergue el Barango). Arrived at Ventosa... very cozy and rural. Perfect for some relaxed vacation - provided they got internet

Bruja 11-27-2013 11:18 AM

Re: Cryptomania

Relaxed.... yes, I guess it was. About 16 houses (most of the buildings are sheep stables), no sign of modern life (it doesn't even have a single shop, or a pub), drinkable water only in the fountain... and one telephone for the whole village (at my aunt's house, I guess we were privileged, we even had an indoors toilet!)

....But I've always loved that river canyon!

I've been there (at Santianes, I mean... I love Pre-Romanesque architecture!), this is the "labyrinth stone":
Attachment 78230

You can read "silo princeps fecit" -starting at the central S and ending at the Ts in the corners- 45760 times (I had to google that figure, I didn't remember there were so many ways of reading that!!!)

And now my knowledge ends and my doubts begin  What can I do with that info??
Let's take a more detailed look at your text.... Attachment 78231

[edit] Hi, Hel!! Yep, that's where I used to spend all my holidays as a child... and where the candleholders' issue began (lack of electricity, you know...)

The letters in the centre are red... Does it mean we only need to use them and disregard the rest? Or right the opposite? Or something completely different? Or I'm quite lost? (yes... that's for sure)

Re: Cryptomania

@Hel: The words in the text are (almost ) purely random - and it's BUG ALRIGHT by the way.

@Bruja: You'll know why the center is red - as soon as you've solved the first step.

Hint: we once had a similar method... remember 'grille'?

Yes... they had a grid and applied it to the text (rotating it)
As the silo square was the hint, I compared both texts looking for letters written in the same place (so I applied a kind of a grid, I guess)
And also tried to find an "E-shaped" sequence (now that I think of it it was also a grid)

..and I'm still perplexed and puzzled :confused3 ... well, I'll begin thinking about the grille hint.

No rotations, no comparison, no shape search. Even simpler than that.
