I feel I should mention that this list is bands I have discovered recentlyish so excludes the oldies such as The Pretenders, Blondie etc
Letters to Cleo

Must Hear Track: I Want You To Want Me
Kay Hanley leads this Boston band, with a funky ska feel, they are lively upbeat and something you will find yourself tapping your foot along to. Probably made famos by their appearance in "10 Things I Hate About You" they are a band to look out for

Morcheeba

Must Hear Track: Fear and Love
Although she left and was replaced in 2003 it is clearly Skye Edwards that made British band Morcheeba. Amazingly powerful voice that is still soft and relaxing, Morcheeba span a lot of genres and span them well. Probably most famous for "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day" but have a diverse and amazing variety of other songs to check out.

Nightwish

Must Hear Track: Nemo
Finnish "Opera Rock" band Nightwish were until recently headed by the classically trained and stunning Tarja Turunen who was fired from the band earlier this year. A bizarre and fabulous mix of heavy guitars and crashing drums with the powerful voice of Turunen, who's soprano voice soars and sweeps through the tracks.

PJ Harvey

Must Hear Track: This is Love
Delightfully eccentric British Polly Jean Harvey expirements with her music. Many think her earlier albums are a total mess but her 2000 realease "Stories from the city stories from the sea" was met with great critical acclaim
Want to hear more? Down By the Water
Skunk Anansie

Must Hear Track: Hedonism
Deborah Dyer AKA Skin headed another British band that make it to the list. Probably more known for Skin's lack of hair and distinct look that anything they come out with some surprisingly powerful "rock ballards" and Skin has the ability to hit those high notes with an ease and grace that is something to behold. However they can still rock out with a few of their more grungier numbers.

Sneaker Pimps

Must Hear Track: Spin Spin Sugar
Some may say cheaky sneaking them in here as Kelli Ali was only the singer on one album, but it was their best! Funky and fresh but with a darker overtone occasionally. Becoming X was the album Ali was lead on and their latter album BloodSport featured the vocals of Chris Corner instead.
