Questioning
Still lost, the keys that is (part 3)
Posted 04-22-2009 at 03:51 PM by itSFMe
I decided to procrastinate a bit more and write the ending to my "lost key"-situation last weekend. Or was it the weekend before that?
Time just moves way too fast
. I think the procrastination might have something to do with that though
Walking out of the Escher museum (jacket on again
) I walk straight into a flee market. I still do not understand how I missed this on the way up there
Boy, must I have been focussed
Or I just had my music on too loud, was dreaming away and looking at the cracks in the pavement
I am not a big fan of markets - or lets say I am often not in the mood for them. Apart from the fact that I easily get lost (especially with all those stands around), I am the kind of girl who likes to go into a store and have some other costumers in there, so the shop assistants do not bother themselves with me. On a market, the people in the stand start to make conversation as soon as you show any interest. I know how to say "I am only looking about a bit", but somehow it makes the snooping less fun
I know, I do not often make sense
Any how, this was a nice market - just enough people to make it comfortable without anybody walking your heels of. And there was a book corner
It looked grand: wooden boxes filled with books and stacked into a wall. I so missed my camera the moment I saw it.
So I spend some time there, flipping through the papers in the sun shine
And that happy feeling of being outside gave me another idea. I was so close to the beach now, I should at least have a breath of fresh sea air
I checked it just now, and apparently this walk was another 4 km
I do not believe it... it has to be 3 km or less... My feet where already hurting when I left the Palace!
While walking I started searching for the cherry tomatoes I had in my bag. Needless to say they got out of their box (I had eaten some on my previous walk) and were all over the place
Strangely enough, none of them were splattered
So I gathered them together and finished them
Not that it helped much against the thirst - and I suddenly realised that (besides living on cherry tomatoes all day) I did not have anything to drink all day. Taking my history of having a nack for fainting, I figured I could better do something about that. The first opportunity was not until quite near the beach though
Luckily it was rather common sense (or at least I pride myself to think so), and not thirst or dizziness that made me want a drink
Of course, the petrol station where I bought my water bottle had trouble with card-payments
And the cashier was not very happy about it, and he showed it
So when I offered to walk to the nearest cash point, already wondering whether I would have enough on my card to get any cash out of it, he gave me the nice reply "That will not fix my cash register, will it?!".
Ok, let's just wait then
. And the miracle occurred: after 5 minutes (or such, I did not have a watch on me) the machine did suddenly accept my card
So I got out of that depressive atmosphere and into the sunlight again, with fresh water to make my smile even brighter
Nothing much to tell about my time at the beach really. I walked up and down the pier, not the one with the shops but the one near the harbour. I watched the ships sail in/out and climbed some stones that lie beside the pier to break the waves - nearly felt into the water of course
It would have been quite a fall into undeep water, so I am glad I got hold again
While walking along the beach, forgetting to get my shoes off and getting them soaked, I started searching my wallet. And "YES!", I was lucky again
In the Netherlands we have these "stamp cards" for public transport. You buy such a card, and in relation to how far you travel the driver or you yourself stamp a certain amount of boxes on it - I still had one with 20 boxes, of which 15 untouched
I knew it was 7 back home, so I did not have to walk
*phew* And it gets even better, for when I double checked with the driver he told me it was just 5 boxes
Made my whole trip
Yeah, it can be easy as that
This happy feeling was almost destroyed though when we arrived at the next stop
You won't believe how many people wanted to get in! I tried to get up and give my seat to somebody else, but I did not even get the space to trade places.
After 15 minutes it became less crowded, and the one hour trip passed without anything noticeable happening. I do not even know where my mind was - I certainly did not think about how to get in my house, that is for sure.
For when I got out at my stop it suddenly hit me: I have no key to get in there!
I had forgotten all about that
So I put my mind on hold and walked the 5 minutes to ring my doorbell... guess what?
