Yesterday I followed a lecture about computional fluid dynamics (
) at another faculty. The class was given in a room with no windows, though I did not really notice this at first.
The guy who tried to explain the subject to us was good in his job, with enough flexibility to make some jokes
which I might have liked if I wouldn't have been so bored by sitting quietly for 45 min.
I know this isn't that long, but yesterday it felt like forever and I can't really explain why.
But right at the end of the second hour, around 17:25 a central "broadcast" was send out by the janitor: "The doors of this building are locked. Nobody will be able to get in or out. We will notify you when something changes in this situation. Bye".
So there we were.
With about 100 people in a room about 25mx25m. That was when I noticed there were no windows.
And only one emergency exit (next to the normal entrance). I figured they had closed the building because of thieves, but I started thinking what would happen if a bomb exploded (no reason why) or a fire broke out.
I didn't like the idea that we all had to get out through those doors ... Somehow those doors could not reasure me as a window can. I know it isn't logical, for in other rooms there are only high windows, or we are to high up to be able to jump out of the window, or the windows have to be smashed before you can get out. But still, the idea to escape through something else than a door is fixed in my head somehow.
Well, that was all I wanted to say I guess - just notify you about my strange 'fear' of windowless rooms.
The 'teacher' quited his class at 17:30, everybody went to the lobby which got crowded, the janitor became angry
since we didn't stay in our rooms and then we were allowed out.
Outside there were cops who wouldn't say what had happened.
So no interesting story there, though I think it might have been an exercise. In that case, I think they failed since the message was first made 4x in Dutch before they translated it in (bad) English
Well, I'll go to class again - in a room with windows
Have a beautiful day!
