More Traffic Pet Peeves (+1)

-People who cut you off by turning from the wrong lane
What I mean is people who turn left from the right outermost lane, or people who turn right from the left innermost lane. Saw this happen today...cut me off. Idiot.
-Crazy speeders
Okay, I speed a bit when I'm driving. But I'll go about 10 km/h above the posted speed limit. Above 15 km/h, you get a speeding ticket.
Over the past 24 hrs, the police did a driving ticket blitz...over 1700 got speeding tickets. One guy was clocked at going 200 km/h, another at 160 km/h. The fastest you can possibly travel within the city limits is 100 km/h.
I don't get why cars go that fast. What possible need is there for my Corolla to go 200 km/h?
Anyways...moving on.
-Drunk drivers
So many recent, pointless drinking-and-driving accidents this past week. Running red lights, speeding, T-boning cars, flipping cars over...
I suppose this can be classified as more than a pet peeve.
I work in health care. At one of the hospitals where I've worked, there were wards dedicated to people with brain injuries. Most were due to car accidents from drinking and driving. Many were the drivers...who were also not wearing seatbelts. There was this one guy who was a pedestrian, but he was drunk and jaywalked out in front of a truck.
It is frustrating to see such an avoidable injury.
More traffic pet peeves to come as I think of them!
Oh yeah, the "+1" in the title, referred to the fact that I wrote this blog entry out, and then is suddenly disappeared and I had to retype it. Pet peeve for retyping lost emails, blog entries, etc.

Sort of similar to your first one - Some people pull over into the left-turn lane just fine, and then just when you are passing them, thinking they are off to your left and out of the way, they have to swing way right in order to turn left.
I see this all the time. Or else you are following someone with their right-turn signal on, and they feel the need to swing way left in order to turn right!
What's up with that, are they off-duty semi truck drivers or something? Dangerous!Posted 10-24-2008 at 09:46 AM by rbud57

It is definately a scare to be cut of
Or to expect a car to go one way, then seeing it going the other as RBud explains
Always catches me of guard
And speeding - I remember I had to learn how to drive and I was determined not to speed. Untill my instructor told me to "just go with the flow" because I was obstructing the other cars by going the right speed
Craziness
Of course, that was about 5 or 10 km/h too fast
Which does mean you get fined here
Drunk driving is quite crazy in my eyes - I make sure I haven't had anything alcoholic when I get in the driver seat
I know 2 beers are a possibility and might not affect you too much according to the law, but I'm not taking chances there - the risk (injuries, guilt etc) is just way too big.
On the other hand, I easily get on my bicycle when I've had 6 beers
I had a talk with my roommate about it just the other day, because he came home that night from a friend of his and he had been taken to the police station for a test because he had admitted to have had 3 beers and a glass of whine. He was still perfectly capable of holding a normal conversation and I couldn't tell he had been drinking
Luckely, the test showed negative
But it had me thinking - for he might have lost his DRIVINGlicense because he went BICYCLING while not completely sober
I do that quite often, never really think about it... While I'm so principal when it comes to CAR driving
I guess next time I'll just have to walk. Though to walk home alone after a night partying (thus a bit intoxicated) might not be on the police list of "safe things to do"
I think I rather cycle
It means I'm of the streets sooner
A bit hypocritical though

We have speed cameras everywhere now - where I live they are mainly in the 30 mph zones. I tend to stay within 10% over...any more than that and I'm looking at a fine and I really don't want points on my licence. I
I've noticed people will drive at less than 25mph in 30 zones, when there is no reason to and then speed up to over 45mph in 40 zones - it just makes no sense whatsoever.
I know I put this last time, but I'm pretty sure some cars must be built without indicators. I was driving behind a police traffic car the other day - went round a few roundabouts and encountered a couple of junctions - no signals at all!! I don't think I've ever seen anyone pulled over for not signalling and it's something that really annoys me...I think it's laziness.
You shouldn't get me started Confuzzled, because I could just rant and rant about this. Of course, I'm a perfect driver and never do anything wrong
- but if I do I acknowledge and then get over it.
Having said all this though, I do love to drive along the open road, especially at night. I quite fancy one of those turns around a racetrack...I reckon I'd be pretty good
